I never said you were happy with it. I asked if you were, as you hadn't said one way or the other.

You need to relax a bit I think

If Macron does veto the extension then May has to go and we delay for a GE, i can't see anything other than that. Failing that we leave next Friday 😞

What does an election achieve, though?

tory shires will revolt against their remain MPs, Northern leave constituencies against theirs.

Farage’s Brexit party might benefit, but I can’t see a clear route. Can’t see a Lib Dem surge.

And, it’s more wasted time greater uncertainty

If the extension is veto'ed, its vetoed no matter what.

Eu have mentioned the 'R' word tonight. So has May.

3rd vote on Monday. Voted down. Vote on Revocation Thursday, A50 Revoked Friday. GE called later the same day.

We are in some very uncertain times and we have a captain of the ship who has gone awol. Although the 2/1 fav is No Deal i don't believe parliament will allow it without a fight. I'll bet on the 4/1 outsider GE as i believe that warrants an extension

A GE would reset Parliament to better represent the people’s opinion

The Conservative party will almost certainly elect a more leave leader and become a leave party

Labour, as it stands at the moment, would not want to go into an election with JC as leader, they will have a bloodbath with Starmer and co. attempting a takeover, they would become a Remain party

The Tigs in the middle ground will be wiped out

With the 2 main parties offering a clear position Parliament should have a mandate to carry it out

Tory MPs laying into May tonight. Sky polling suggests the public blame her and the government for the mess.

Fury amongst rival party MPs over her statement. Some commentators accusing her of borderline fascism in her attempt to tell the public to bully the MPs.

I think that is what you call the most spectacular backfire ever.

I don’t want a GE but the thought of a bloodbath for remain MPs like Grieve and Soubry  and northern and midlands Labour MPs whets my appetite. Maybe that’s the best way to go about getting the referendum result honoured.

Labour are ahead in recent polls...they were 12 points behind going into the last election. I’m not convinced a GE produces a good result, I think you’d have an even more hung parliament than we have now....

I’ll put my house on a bigger Tory majority if election is called.

I remember after her maiden speech, when she took the piss out of Corbyn, some on here were getting a stiffy claiming she was the next Thatcher. She's without doubt the worst leader in living memory. Luckily for her, Corbyn is leading the opposition, otherwise her and her party could be wiped out in the next GE

Brexit means brexit

Strong and stable

Brexit is red, white and blue

Fucking awful PM

I'd agree that whilst his posts have substance, he is starting to come across as very, very condescending. He just thinks he's better and smarter than everybody else on here, especially anybody who voted remain.

What's he said now? I've had him on ignore for months

I was half expecting two men in white coats to escort her off the stage after that rabid rant.

They don’t have a majority now. And I think polling would indicate not. Strongly not. The current mood in the country is one of anger at the government. 6 months ago they’d have cruised a GE but now? I think they’d lose seats and nobody would have a workable majority.

Grieve absolutely blasting May in the commons now. She has lost any shred of credibility she had left.

Her credibility? That man is an utter fucking slimeball. He and Soubry would be first against the wall.

There will always be fans of consensus politics. However people who have/still go further left (Tony Benn/Peter Shore/Michael Foot) or further right (Jacob Rees Mogg/Margaret Thatcher/Nigel Lawson) are not "extremists". There's far too much use of that word on here and elsewhere by people who say they are fans of the middle ground and consensus. What they are trying to do is shut down/silence people who have opinions other than their own. It's a dangerous trend, it is deeply undemocratic and it is liberal bigotry. It is born of the zealous cult of political correctness. People who do this clearly think their views are all powerful - but they need to articulate those views to make them persuasive and allow them to be challenged and therefore refined by the arguments of those  with whom they disagree. They shouldn't attempt to shut down the debate by pejoratively labelling those people as "extreme". Arguments can be vociferous and heated and I've had such debates with you on here  - but argument there must be. The political discourse cannot be cleansed of trains of thought that are viewed as "extreme" by the self appointed morally superior.

The Brexit debate has elements of this on the remain side. For instance for many years people had legitimate points to raise about immigration but they were labelled rabid racists. There are other examples.

This post isn't aimed at you specifically - it's aimed generally at what I see is a very unhealthy trend.

In my humble opinion, one of the best posts I have ever read on here about the sad state of political discourse in this socially engineered PC world we have allowed the liberal elite to forge.

Yeah I voted remain. Mainly on the basis of its far too technical to understand so go with the status quo. Too much bollocks from both sides

The vote went leave so accepted it as thought leave it to the people that be. Except they've made a monumental fuck up of it

I don't like the idea of a second referendum, non binding or otherwise but you can see how this government has monumentally fucked it up

What I don't like is people like yourself labelling others as remoaners as a childish school yard name for someone who dare have a different opinion. And anybody else who dare speak out against what is happening  saying it's all fucked up

You being very condescending to other people's views on a non binding referendum where the powers that be have made a monumental fuck up makes me fair game for calling you a cock

Call me what you like pal. My response and my stance is based on the bile that's been hurled at leavers since June 2016. Many (by no means all) people on your side of this debate have behaved appallingly since day 1 and quite frankly deserve the disrespect.

If leave had lost, the result would have just been accepted. There'd have been continued (futile) efforts to get the EU to reform and continued putting forward of the position that Britain as a member of the EU should not get further drawn in to the federalist project.

Calling for a second referendum is hugely disrespectful to the 17.4m of us who voted to leave. What the hell is the point of voting, being on the that side wins the day, and having that outcome ignored. That is not democracy. It is the stuff of banana republics. And it gives me fair game for returning your very kind compliments.

Many thanks. It seems not everybody agrees. Which means not everybody believes in free speech. Which actually really means people don't like having their views challenged by someone who has a different view of the world. That is very, very unhealthy.

They'll all be scuttling off to their "safe spaces" having read what we've said.

The Germans are getting a bit fed up with the EU as well now. Politics and the federalist theology before the welfare of populations and economies. This is what we are leaving. Bring it on.
