Site Supporter MickyD Posted August 22, 2017 Site Supporter Share Posted August 22, 2017 Suddenly I can't get the desktop screen icons or toolbar to show on my laptop. I've tried rubbing with bloons, whizzing it round in a sock and m restore; no joy.

e2e4
this is nearly a week now. seems a long time. when this happened to me , it ended up being a knackered update and the auto update wouldnt work .. so i think i forced it to check for new ones and whatever were broken got mended.. after a reboot or two.. but .. lhwhite's info seems good, but everyones assuming its windows.. does 'control alt delete' not bring up the taskmanager ? killing the explorer.exe thing should force it to restart the desktop icons and start bar. might just crash again straight away, but at least then somethings going on.. if youre lucky just updating will correct it.. anything else might mean pissing about with the command line or keyboard commands just to get to where something might mend stuff (a broke desktop is hard work, its like not having a mouse).... Traf
Pretty much as Ryan says (he works in IT you know) alt+Ctrl+Delete at the same time and wait for a box to open when the box is open Click "file" at the top and then Click "New Task (Run...)" when you get another small box with something to type in, type in explorer.exe
Site Supporter MickyD Posted September 18, 2017 Author Site Supporter Share Posted September 18, 2017 Turns out either my fat fingers or a dodgy update switched me to "Tablet Mode" how the fuck would I ever have guessed that?
e2e4
Turns out either my fat fingers or a dodgy update switched me to "Tablet Mode" how the fuck would I ever have guessed that? never occured to me, even though ive done it myself.. its too easy to do, should be a 'press twice more to confirm' kinda thing.. but the one like that , that i see a lot, is people with screens at 90 degree angles.. thats also easy to do accidently, i think its just two keys (shift and an arrow key, or something) stupid intel keyboard shortcuts being on by default.. Site Supporter MickyD Posted September 21, 2017 Author Site Supporter Share Posted September 21, 2017 We used to do that to computers at work. Those winter nights flew by.
Site Supporter MickyD Posted December 28, 2017 Author Site Supporter Share Posted December 28, 2017 Laptop intermittently changes screen brightness. Bright - darker - bright - darker. Each time with an annoying bleep. Any ideas?
