Smiley
Had our chimney swept a few months back. Guy finished by putting a smoke bomb in the fireplace to check it was coming out ok. Said we had an issue as smoke was definitely coming out of next door's chimney pot as well. Which meant somewhere along the chimney there must be a hole that's allowing the smoke through into next doors. They don't use theirs anymore, just us. Can we find anyone willing to take the job on of looking at where the problem could be? Everyone seems to want to potray a mass of doom and gloom. Need scaffolding, need chimney stack rebuilding, need pressure test, need camera looking at it, etc, etc. We just want a builder/roofer to pop up there, and see if the issue is within arm's reach so that it can easily be remedied. If not, we realise it going to be £3K-£4K to have it properly lined (whether we want open or gas). Anyone???

Did you personally see the smoke coming out of the neighbour's chimney pot or are you just taking Dick Van Dyke's word for it ? Simplest option for starters is to get surveyor with a camera to look down the flue and investigate any holes etc. Are your neighbour's complaining about it ? If not...f@@k it and save the money, Johnny Tight Keks. Is it plausible you could have a twisted flue....? By this I don't mean, a standard flue bend, but the actual brickwork itself inside the breast, where the smoke comes out from a different pot than you'd expect ?
