Video Assistant Referee

I know there's a thread about this but I can't find it.

Watching the Stuttgart Vs Cologne match on BT. Ref has had to use the VAR on a penalty decision late in the game. He ended up reversing his decision and not awarding the pen to Cologne. Took nearly 4 mins from the original penalty to the drop ball. Even then there was still a debate to be had that it was a penalty. This will suck then life out if the game, and the terraces, if this is how it's going to be.

Clear forward pass in last weeks grand final the ref didn't refer it so try was given the video referee should have communicated that to the on field ref so that try could have been reversed other wise why have them? In the case of the German penalty ref should give penalty and it should be taken while the video referee reviews it if it's inconclusive the on field decision should stand only if it's blatantly wrong decision which should only take 20 seconds to decide should bit be changed. My view is the video referee should only act in clear cases of a mistake.

More than happy with the goal line technology over here but anything that needs the game to be stopped is a no from me, and that's as someone who was initially in favour of it.

The video referee isn't allowed to make a decision on a forward pass in RL because the camera angle isn't dead in line with the player passing the ball.

That might be so but neither is on field referee.

I think in rugby it works fine as the same passion and fervour isn’t there from supporters and that’s coming from someone who follows rugby closely.

But football does something to you that no other sport does and VAR is simply going to spoil the game.

I was an advocate of it and thought it might work but it can’t and will ruin the game as a spectacle.

What we need to do though is stop the witch hunt on officials who make a mistake as ultimately that is why it’s being brought in.

In general, I think VAR will help the bigger clubs as the refs will be under pressure to give them marginal decisions. It won't be going away though.

I wonder if the day will come when we are driving back celebrating a 2-1 away win somewhere and we hear on five live that after a VAR review we have actually lost 3-2.
