Don't Mess

Not easy, but perhaps start with youths and antisocial stuff. Smashing bus stops for instance.

Come down hard, perhaps five days a week removing old industrial and current rubbish from rivers and banks. Obviously a decent regard to safety but not cotton wooling, make it hard graft, pissed wet through and knackered, but build up a sense of teamwork and ultimately a feeling of achievement and self worth.

Maybe have them collecting waste cooking oil from houses and businesses for conversion to fuel. Avoid the fatbergs.

Must be loads of environmental type stuff that could be done that sadly authorities don't have the money to resolve

They're in public view too- need to overcome initial embarrassment then gain self respect.

Thing is we have jail sentences for all sorts of crime but it doesn’t stop people commiting the crimes or becoming habitual offenders

If folk are that way inclined I don’t think any embarrassing punishment would make them think twice, they’ll just try harder not to get caught

You may be right, but society seems to have developed in a way that this sort of anti social behaviour is continually growing and we don't seem able to address it.

For me we need to get into these kids earlier. Even at age eleven or twelve or whenever they start.

If its nicking a few sweets or whatever, get into them early. Far too much namby pamby involvement from well meaning but often ineffective state workers.

Get them as kids, together with the parents doing stuff like cleaning litter, with identifying clothing on.

As it is, kids seem to know they are untouchable, and become hardened to authority.

I agree with your sentiments but see the bad lads army every week doing stuff, whilst some of it is physical I wouldn't call it hard graft and the minute it starts spitting they retire to a nice warm building for a brew 'til it stops. They are in public view though not surenthere's any embarrasment factor.

Agree Andy- the bad lads army is far too soft. It needs revisiting and strengthening.

Maybe bring back stocks too- lock em in full view for a while, while we chuck shit at them.

My Dad always said that, and while I know it will likely never happen, it would be a better deterrent than anything current, imo.

Was why my point above about eye for an eye type stuff was made - not a road I'd want to go down but if folk knew the consequence of chucking acid in someones face was facing similar permanent disfigurement, I'd bet heavily we'd see a massive reduction in that crime.

I know things aren't that simplistic and that many kids come from pretty hard backgrounds and live with the kind of shit that would make a hard man cry but, and it's a big but, they all fear pain, humiliation etc.  If that's on the table from the start . . .

I offer Thailand as an example;  the most peaceful place I've ever lived in but by the Christ, you wouldn't want to be caught so much as doodling on a bus seat.

Coincidence?

Getting the parents involved, legally, is a good idea, imo.

In my experience far too many 'chavy' types let their kids run feral as they can't be arsed bringing them up right.  Make them lose pay and have embarrassment at work etc and see how quickly they sort stuff out . . .

As has been said above it's a culture that has been allowed to get out of hand.

There's a lot of single mums struggling to control lads where the dad has left bringing up their kids to the ex and the rest of us.

Aye I get where you're coming from but it seems to me as a society we've tried the carrot and it doesn't work.

A balance is required, certainly, but if they are minors then it's their responsibility as much as the child's.  Dads/Mums in such cases could be contacted and made to help/support.  Counselling services and other support should also be made available.

There is no easy answer, sadly.

I'm thinking this guy is Muslim and playing at being a terrorist, shame he wasn't shot with a proper gun.

If I hadn't seen Mounts in real life with my own eyes, I'd think he was somebody portraying a character.
