50,000 at burden great atmosphere

Amazing looking back at those days and the attendances for the occasional big game and then look at the restrictions later imposed. Makes you wonder how we all fitted in the place (Normid not withstanding)

Always remember my Dad telling me of the game he attended at Burnden vs City which was the record attendance (70,000+??). He was only about 13/14 so did what all kids did in them days and paid in at The Lever End and then jibbed over the divide into the Burnden Paddock. At the end he tried to get out to meet his Dad on Manny Road to get the tram back up Chorley Old Road but got swept out of the Burnden side without his feet touching the ground. Couldn't find his Dad, had no money so hung on the back of trams to get back home. Stories like that and then taking me to that Everton game simply gave me that bug for BWFC that never leaves you. Today's generation will never get that unfortunately

Exactly mate.

My dad told me the same re the Darlington game in 85.

The crowd was that big, he was swept out the Lever End and his feet never touch the ground again until he ended up somewhere in Florida. He shagged some wench on a Soul Train and that is where I was conceived...hence my name.

On a serious note, and I’ve said it a few times on here previously......I always remember a small pocket of Evertwattingtonians in the Manny Rd Wing Stand singing Que Sera Sera after the final whistle.......they did break my heart as a nine year old.

76/77/78 had some magic days for Bolton fans with crowds the younger fans today will sadly never see....that is very sad because these good kids nowadays would bloody buzz about being present in home games where 40k were present.

They were few and far between admittedly, but by Christ....those memories are priceless and so special.

The buzz when you arrived on the bus at Burnden when there was a big crowd on the road up to Bolton jam packed queues from the turnstile snaking along manny road simply made the hairs stand up on your neck. Sadly that evening did not pan out like we all wished and the pain of this 12 year old that night I can still feel.

Sat in Burnden Stand that night as a 9 year old. Gutted. Remember the away leg more when Neil Whatmore scored near the end from a free kick - thought we were at Wembley. Seemed a bigger deal in those days.

The away game was excellent apart from a little trouble from the scouse scum. Outside our coach they were kicking a young Bolton kid about 12 and we got off the coach to save him. Got off the coach at Daubhill and walking home we were sure we would get to the final.

Hate Everton

That made me laugh!!

41 years ago. Jesus.

Midweek or Saturday always remember as a kid; the drive from Farnworth and how far the cars were parked up Bradford Road meant how far we had to walk from a side street, the left turn out of Weston Street to see how big the queues were at the Lever End and whether the grey tele vans were parked up and then finally being passed over the turnstile as it was cheaper for my dad to bung the turnstile chap 10p rather than the extra 20p for a dad 'n' lad ticket at £1.10.

I was gutted that night and can remember the big crowd atmospheres to this day.  Still no idea where my dad used to go for 2 hours during the game when I got left on the front fence though???!!!

Was in the top tier of that big stand for the first leg - front row. Nearly went over the edge when Whatty scored that equaliser. Park End was below us and what a sight that was. An explosion of writhing bodies and flailing arms.

Second leg was a massive disappointment. We were all sure we were going to Wembley. Had some hubcap technicians stood right in front of us in the Burnden Paddock. They didn't last long (coppers escorted them into the away end).

Felt robbed for days after that. Never liked them cunts.

I remember both games. For the away leg I went on a coach from the Black Horse in Farnworth with some friends from school and one of their dads.

On arriving at Goodison there were bin dippers everywhere trying to steal scarves from people getting off the coaches. I do recall one of them being put on his arse by an almighty punch.

After Whatmore's goal went in it was manic in the away end and all we could talk about on the way home was about going to Wembley for the final.

For the second leg I walked from Kearsley with the same friends and will always remember Manny road being packed with bodies. We took up our usual spot in the Lever End. We all know the rest.

Apart from the Sunderland league match I can't remember a crowd so big and the atmosphere that went with it.

Definately a heartbreaker would have been or first Wembley since 58 in the days when Wembley had'nt been devalued to just another venue.

It was a massive deal then because it meant so much to be in a major final

Hence the huge crowd.Latchford's header was a goal as soon as it left his head

Not being an old scrote but football has changed for the worse.Of course it all was'nt great we had some real shit times but the cup games were special & we will never get that back.Remember playing Swindon about four or five times in a early round League cup game & going to West Brom for a second fa cup reply against Cardiff not to mention the second reply against Newcastle at elland road.

Christ where did it all go so twisted?
