Site Supporter barryk32 Posted February 18, 2018 Site Supporter Share Posted February 18, 2018 Its the new PPI. Have you had cavity wall isulation? Is your house now fucking riddled with damp? Think Smiffs or BCG would be best to advise though.
C86
My architect mate says don’t do it I concur. I have it and being removed in spring, the gable wall should defo never had it in the first place.

Underpants
I've had it done on a free. I think I'm warner. I'm not colder.
MancWanderer
Sick to death of people knocking on the door offering it FOC Always refused thinking there's a catch Apart from damp, mentioned above, what are the problems and why are people offering it to me free? How does a company benefit by doing it free?
bwfc2003
Supposedly government grant but we are now getting door knockers claiming it is installed incorrectly and they will help us to claim
Blondi
We've had it done, never noticed the house being any warmer or a reduction in our gas bills tbh.
birch-chorley
My architect seems to recommend it He’s had no problems with his Still very wary though

birch-chorley
We are thinking of rendering the whole house in K rend which I believe is silicon based and water repellent (to an extent) Would this then reduce the risk of cavity wall insulation getting damp? wackerchackers
Don't do it.

K rend is good but you need a good dry spell when it's applied, any rain/moisture on it will RUIN it. Also the colour pigments fade quite a bit over time. birch-chorley
I wouldn’t expect it to last forever, i’m assuming it’s a simple paint job every few years rather than a full re render?

gonzo
Is it compulsory for renderers to coat windows and frames with bastard render every time they apply it? The fuckers get more on the window than on the wall. Always wondered why new windows can't go in after the render has taken place??

jayjayoghani
I'm not an expert on this as it's not really structural but.. The cavity is the last line of defence if water gets in. It's bloody difficult to get buildings 100% watertight, the cavity will redirect water via the tray at the bottom. Now if you fill the cavity with insulation, water that would otherwise leave the building has a pathway inside. So good or bad idea, it depends.
