Weekend Mr Grey Midweek Mr Grey

Londonderry   HTH

HSV v Bayern Munich ca. 1975.   Bayern were 4-0 up after 25 mins. Two absolute crackers from Paul Breitner.   They were simply fantastic. HSV weren't mugs at the time but they couldn't get near th

A proper random one was 1980, my parents were visiting relatives in the midlands and I only agreed to go if I could go to a game.  Looked at fixtures and picked Wolves v Watford FA Cup 5th round.  Andy Gray, John Barnes etc.  Dad dropped me off outside Molyneux (we were late so not much traffic); no tickets required, paid cash on gate.  Watford won 3-0 and he picked me up outside the ground at 5.  I was 14, God knows how all that worked with 30,000 fans leaving.  No phones etc.  I did same a year later but WBA v Palace, Bryan Robson scored.  Only 15k on and they were about 6th in top division.  Dad picked me up on that main road that we all walk down to get towards away end, hasnt changed a bit.

Been to a fair share of Everton games because me old man supports them. Nearly got thrown out of Goodison when we beat them 4-0.

A few games when I’ve been on a city break or away for work. I see more City games than Wanderers games unfortunately nowadays unfortunately  but they pay my mortgage 😁

Done loads of scottish games. Started to watch Livingston As a neutral cos of hospitality at work and then carried on watching them Out of choice when I changed jobs.

done a lot of hearts games with my mates up here as well as a neutral. It’s just a day out and the football sort of gets in the way as I’m really not arsed what happens at the game.

probably done 10/15 English grounds as a neutral as well again because of work. Just not the same when it doesn’t matter

Oddest one I did was with a Hull supporting mate and his lass (HBWHT? Like a dead heat in a zeppelin race!) at Reading as Hull were there and we were in the seated bit (this was back at Elm Park). Turns out a group of Reading fans had been jumped by some Hull and got twatted, with one in hospital. So at half time the police escorted his mates along the front of the stand in a sort of identity parade to pick out the culprits. I thought "they'll pick me even though I don't support Hull and didn't twat anyone". Fortunately not - I think the tits distracted them :)

Going to Naples on Friday and Salernitana player Livorno on Sunday. Can you usually pay on the day or do you have to sort em beforehand?

Napoli probably beforehand, Salernitana never been an issue for me. Don't ever recall a sellout at Stadio Arechi but there must have been some! Tickets easy to find everywhere - especially at a lot of the local bars. Club Antica Salerno are present in a few bars and are a good source but the one I can definitely recommend is Bar Luna in Torrione (my local whilst I am there). Usually no problem getting match tickets there but they can sometimes be funny buggers if you're a strange face on their turf. Thanks to missus' extended family, I am a 'local' now.

Couple of World Cup group games in 1982, Argentina v El Salvador and Belgium v Hungary. Went from Benidorm on a coach full of Belgians who were a jolly bunch and made it a load of fun

Went to USSR v Belgium at the Nou Camp. I've mentioned this before on here but had the opportunity to go to Brazil v Argentina at Espanol's old ground but the guy selling tickets said it might not be suitable for a 9 year old.

I've never forgiven my family for that.

A lot of nutcases at both games mate. You won't be wanting for 'atmosphere' if you can get anywhere near either clubs Ultra's.

Just avoid the Camorra which is not as easy as it might sound. I have had two incidents with them both of which involved pistols and one was football related.

A good bar in Salerno was the Easy Rider Bar near Lungomare but I note it has changed hands and is now the Black Rose Irish Pub.I'll probably give that a swerve and rely on bar Luna next time I am there - possibly later this year.

Did Man U vs Spurs two seasons ago in the posh seats. Helping a mate to set up and network his new business. Got caned on here for admitting it 😀 Fucking hell that was boring. Shite atmosphere, shite game, no interest in the result. Hated it

Been to a quite a few Massives games with my brother over the years as he has two ST's. Mainly for a few beers in Manc and a catch up with him. Even worse than Utd. No atmosphere whatsoever although I will give them some credit - that whole City Square thing with the food, drinks, music outside the stadium is fucking superb. Brilliant for home fans but no good for away fans though. Scary when they played Roma in a CL game - their ultras just marched straight through and you could have heard a pin drop

Done a few local non-leagues over the last few years. Curzon Ashton was OK. They seem to like us due to the pre-seasons that we've done. Droylsden was weird. Proper backward neanderthal stuff I can only compare to Port Vale fans

Wasn't Dale Creggan from round Droylsden way? Now he did have an eye for a player! 😊

When any of you attend these games as a neutral, do you celebrate the goals like this?

(Edit - apart from Monsieur Grey at OT, of course)

I’m not one for the ‘why don’t you go and watch someone else’ brigade but I think losing this fella to big nights and YouTube at other clubs may be good business all round.

Might have been mentioned but Watford v Burnley last season

Fooking awful 0-0. Cold and wet with no shots on goal

Good set up they've got there. Kiosks for beer only, contactless only etc and staff knowing what they're doing

Small club shop under main stand as well
