Nobster
Anyone thinking that fans of the massives are OK needs to spend some time living over over here on the East side of Manc Utter cunts I'm no fan of the red shite but they are more tolerable round here Different viewpoint perhaps not living in Bolton anymore Totally agree I live in Whitefield, couple of big City pubs here full of deluded pricks who forget how shit they were before the Arabs tipped up. Leyther_Matt
Be interesting who the next generation of plastic glory hunters supportI always use the simple barometer of a sunny day on Blackpool Prom and seeing which shirts appear the most. I’m sure Gonzo will have more accurate data but I’d go as far to say City are the majority these days, followed by Chelsea. 20 years ago you’d have had more chance seeing a Bolton shirt than either of those two. I don’t think City do anywhere near as well as DMB’s did/do in terms of translating that in to match day receipts, the mythical season ticket waiting list and the like though, possibly partly due to the changing ways that people consume football nowadays compared to the 90s. But for now I am quite enjoying whats happening with the two Manchester clubs. Its been said elsewhere but that City documentary on amazon is a belting watch. Oh I love Pep and a lot of that the club is doing in the community etc but when you work in Manc and live in stockport you get to the stage of resentment quickly with the fans TBH my “proper” blue mates are sound. But then so are my proper red ones in truth More success just brings out more whoppers
Whites man
....and there has to be an element of our enemies enemy is our friend. Not on this point mate. Every empty seat tonight should have an arse on it but for some football watching folk their local team isn’t good enough for them. Doesn’t matter if they go to Old Trafford, Etihad, Anfield or anywhere else.

Though this season has started brighter than anyone of us could expected. Unfortunately most "football fans" are of a very fickle and fair weather nature. We just aren't shiny and fashionable enough to attract many Bolton folk. But as Casino eluded to, i'd rather watch with a hardcore and loyal 10k than i would a part-time happy clappy 25k. frank_spencer
You see more Barca and Real Madrid shirts out and about than any of the 'smaller' local teams.

An incredible number of football fans in this country simply have no idea of the concept of actually attending a game, never mind on a regular basis. Funny how none of these types seem to support us or any other small club though.

I am not suggesting that we picket Bolton station and abuse folk with City or United scarves but we should picket Bolton station and abuse folk with City or United scarves. Also interesting that not too long ago the hardcore consisted of around 4000. Growing slowly.

paulhanley
Re the last paragraph, I'm not sure Ken would! Anyway, were no different to any other club in that regard; team's doing well- crowds go up. Also interesting that not too long ago the hardcore consisted of around 4000. Growing slowly. We're at an interesting stage with our core support. I'd compare now with the early to mid 1970s. We had a steady decline in the second tier ending in relegation (second half of 60s/2012-2016), then a short but ultimately successful and regenerative spell in the third tier (1971-73/2016/17) and now establishing back in tier 2 with a solid fanbase. Certainly better than it was in the 90s at Burnden - including Bruce and Colin's successful promotion campaigns. We get better gates than Blackburn, PNE and Wigan. It could be much better but it's going in the right direction and it's no disgrace.
