Sweep
How long before the race would you expect Magic Circle to arrive? - I'm assuming with only a month to go until the race, that he would be traveling shortly, or do horses not suffer the same jet-lag and acclimatiastion issues that humans do? Magic Circle is doing quarantine before flying as opposed to that list I posted who have flown and are now in quarantine. MC will arrive on October 13th at Tullamarine
Traf
The other horses to enter quarantine were Master of Reality, Muntahaa, Latrobe, Marmelo, Nakeeta, Rostropovich, Idaho and The Pentagon.

A 2 mile handicap compared to the Classics in the UK, the Arc and the US triple crown. No denying though, it has been well marketed and every fucker seems to want to win it these days including various oil sheiks, Godolphin etc. A lot of whingeing and whining down here - mainly about letting in the international raiders. One eyed of course - they want their horses to compete in the Japan Cup, Royal Ascot, big races in Honkers and Dubai etc. Whinge as they might, the eggs can't be unscrambled now and it is a bona fide international event on the world stage. https://www.racenet.com.au//news/melbourne-cup-rumblings-gain-more-and-more-momentum-20181007 As an aside, what would you nominate as the biggest race in the world? As a purist, I would still argue it's the Epsom Derby.
Members bolty58
Lloyd Williams (owner of Crown Casino chain) who covets this race more than anything else (won it last year with Rekindling and relatively recently with the likes of Green Moon and Efficient) has lined up another lightweight chance called Latrobe which some of the smarties are quietly whispering about. Mainly run in Ireland (won the Irish Derby?) and a couple of runs in England? What can you tell me about this one lads? Seems to have all the right credentials with the light weight etc. If it was to get a favourable barrier draw like Rekindling did, my spider senses will be tingling. enzo gambaro
I can tell you how old Latrobe is if that helps. Rekindling had more of a stayer’s profile, including running well staying on for fourth in a strong Leger. I think you’d be taking a fair bit more on trust with Latrobe -which isn’t to say he’s a no-hoper by any stretch - and you could spend all day picking holes in the Irish Derby form. Traf
No guarantees Latrobe stays, based on his run in the Irish St Leger. Plus Camelot progeny beyond 1m4f are just 3 from 30 so far (1 from 21 if you exclude Class 5 & 6 races!)

enzo gambaro
Couldn’t see any reason for O’Brien to run Kew Gardens in Paris instead of Melbourne, and I didn’t see anything on Sunday to change my mind.

Members bolty58
Framlington!!!!!!?????? You are looking for a bite aren't you? You know full well that it's Flemington. Big day here tomorrow with Caulfield Guineas Day in Melbourne and The Everest in Sydney. A lot of the internationals stepping out in Melbourne for the first time so I will be an interested watcher on. I have friends in Melbourne who own a business making all of the paraphernalia associated with racing (silks, boots, breeches, saddles - you name it) and they get to meet all of the celebs. Over the years I have had some golden information (including a 200-1 winner which, like a dick, I decided not to risk a few dollars on. Saloon Rule. Burned into my soul that name! As far as tomorrows Caulfield Guineas goes, they won't hear of even money favourite The Autumn Sun being beaten so that's another point of interest for me. Members bolty58
Well, The Autumn Sun made that into a one act affair. Trainer talking about it being his future replacement for Winx! High praise indeed. With Ladbrokes odds boost managed to get 5/4 so no complaints. Be interested to see if their Hong Kong tip wins now. Just had a look and can get 2.20 with the odds boost. Not sure i really know enough about HK racing to risk any of my profit. The Aussie jockey (Zac Purton) is one of the guns up there so maybe. Members bolty58
Good lad. That's a luxury price! My instincts to avoid what I don't know came in handy. The HK thing missed the kick and could only tun into backsides and ended up fourth.
Members bolty58
They are going mad on Yucatan for both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups down here after his very impressive win in Saturdays lead up race (Herbert Power Hcp) on Saturday. Won hard held by 1.25 lengths but was 6 clear at the 100m mark and eased right down. From what I can see from Ireland/UK form, this would have been a bit of a surprise to most up there? The fact that the Williams family are the owners sets alarm bells racing. They have a brilliant record in the Cups and it is their main aim each year to knock off one or both (they had Rekindling last year). Received a 2.5kg penalty for last Saturday which means he would make the field for the big one. https://www.racenet.com.au//news/yucatan-gets-2-5kg-penalty-for-2018-melbourne-cup-20181015 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4GojR1Bxew Edited October 15, 2018 by bolty58 youtube
Traf
Yucatan is a Group 3 1m2f horse that clearly prefers a right handed track. He won't run the Caulfield IMO.
enzo gambaro
There’s a bit of form at the beginning of last season where he split Rekindling and Capri in the Ballysax. It’s easy to see why that might catch an Aussie’s eye, but it’s difficult to get too excited about anything that’s happened since.
