Youri McAnespie
Butter pie was a northwest staple - made for Catholics primarily, for meat-free Fridays.
Ghana White
Yeah I'd heard that, was surprised as come from an old Bolton Irish Catholic family and never come across it.
Youri McAnespie
I'm related (by marriage) to a family of master bakers or I probably wouldn't have heard of it either...until last month, when I was offered one as an alternative to a Carr's Cheese and Jalapeño Pastie, in the unlikely surroundings of the Premier Store on Settle Street. I can't recall if it was a Friday though. Surely that tradition, amongst others (weekly baths etc.) has died out among the lily-livered generation of mine? kent_white
It looks like sick and smells like BO. That's all you need to know really. Just done some research. It's just beef stew isn't it? I can't see how that can be a bad thing? With some crusty bread!
Dr Faustus
Oat cakes are alright despite coming from stoke. In Stoke now, will try and find one. Can't remember if I had one when we played Vale
Whites man
In Stoke now, will try and find one. You should have started a "Stoke on Trent recommendations" thread.
kaydan
Was chatting with a Mexican woman about their food, and I asked are empanadas part of the cuisine. No, but pasties are. What?! Apparently exported by Cornish miners to various corners of the globe, including Mexico. Even adopted the word... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paste_(pasty) She also confirmed cheese on burritos is an Americanism that I've long suspected Just come back from Mexico and many different types of pasty were served at the lunch buffet every day. They were all shit though.
