I would recommend Orkney to anyone, lovely place, as is the vast majority of Scotland to be fair.

Stunning place. But it’s a long way (I think I recall you have family up there?)

probably too far for @birch-chorley dirty weekend and I wouldn’t want to be dragging 3 kids all that way!

Me neither, it is a cunt of a drive hence the stopovers on the way up and down planned this year. Still worth it though to see family, enjoy orkney ice cream and just absorb the history and landscape. Plus a night out is belting, right characters them Orkadians.

Well a few on here have done dumfries and Galloway so they could point you in the right direction on that front.

Again as I said to birch I would look at loch leven loch tay areas which are decent. Can get some decent camping/glamping.

if you want to do real adventure then I would say head to some of the islands. Do the highlands around ullapool, Durness and then down the West coast to mallaig and get a ferry over to some of islands.

all depends on budget as well pal as some places especially skye aren’t cheap. But if you want some basic fun and plenty things like bike treks and kayaking On lochs etc then loch leven area is spot on and only c5 hours from Bolton area (if you are there)

Cheers, much appreciated. It’s got me motivated now to get my act together. So much to explore in Scotland 👍

Dunblane hydro I would swerve. Nice enough. But nowt there really and more of a business hotel I’ve used it for hosting team meetings and the like. Don’t get me wrong it’s nice enough but depends what you want.  Think @MancWanderer has stayed there as well if memory serves me right (not with me I hasten to add).

Yeah Dunblane Hydro has gone really downhill last time I stayed. Like you said it’s more geared towards business nowadays and there are areas that are lot nicer to stay

Wonderful country. Just a shame about some of the people. But that applies worldwide.

I stayed at the Dunkeld House Hotel late last year which was very nice

@Escobarp would know better than me as to whether it fits the bill in terms of location, etc. Might be a tad pricey though

Probably a wee bit isolated I would say from what he says. I know where it is and it looks nice though. Man of birch’s means (the king of tea)  with a large orangery and this will be well within budget

My dad swears by Anstruther / St Andrews area

Big empty beaches, amazing seafood. And a secret nuclear bunker where large parts of the government would have hidden if it kicked off in the cold war.

@mickbrown shed?

anstruther is nice. Lovely Michelin recommended restaurant there. Be too fancy for some but I enjoyed it. Crqcking chippy too

St Andrews Try balgove larder for some Wonderful meat and produce to take home and they have a great steak barn. Old associate of mine Henry cheape owns it.

Aye tell me about it, I live in Orkney and drive back down to Bolton a couple of times a year to see my folks and get to a game. I’ve also lived in Durness, Achiltibuie, Tobermory, Oban, Poolewe and Stronian so I know Scotland well. Happy to answer any questions. Also, @Escobarp good choice with the Tongue Hotel, if you were wanting self catering in the Eriboll/Hope area there’s http://www.lundies.scot/index.html and https://www.croft103.com

Oban is a lovely place but I must admit, as an 18 year old lad I was quite nervous at times, some of them aren't a friendly bunch. It was well over 20 years ago mind.

Glaswegian Tommy Doc was sacked for banging Mary Brown a few weeks after he won the FA Cup in 1977.If he could have kept his pants on would Man Utd have won the league title under him?

Imagine having to share a bunker with Sturgeon and Blackford, rather take a direct hit from a nuclear warhead.

Spain booked for late July. It was cheaper than staying at home.

Tenerife in September.

Vietnam & Cambodia for Xmas -  fingers crossed as they are phase 3 countries.

Our Jet2 booking for 23rd July (the missus) has been cancelled by them. Going to use the money from that to pay off next years already booked holiday (the missus again!) then after that I am going to insist on using Traf.
