I thought they only create the winter flu jab in our summer and it’s based on the prominent flu viruses from the Southern Hemispheres winter flu season

Anyway, If we can’t roll out a flu jab to the whole country then we have got fuck all chance of rolling out a Covid jab either

Begs the question, why are we waiting for a vaccine if we haven’t got the ability to roll it out? Herd immunity would be the only option in that case

I dunno

I'll ask and get back to you

All I know is they have to get their orders in by January

@Traf what’s the resort like where you are? Is everything open?

Just heard from Greece that masks now req in shops

Already mandatory on public transport

We’re in an AI hotel which is as full as it’s allowed to be (80% capacity with 100% staffing levels) . There are some COVID related compromises in the hotel, but nothing insurmountable.

Shops, bars, restaurants etc in Faliraki are open and all very grateful for any custom.

Re: masks in shops, yes you’re supposed to wear them, but half seem to and half don’t.

anyone serving you with anything has a mask on.

Rhodes is generally at 40% of what it would be, which means no crowds, beaches are quieter and all in all, it’s a fantastic place.

if anybody fancies it, or Croatia/Malta/Turkey (which seems to be all that’s feasible right now), give me a shout and I’ll fix you up.

The main issue is they still don't know if its possible to develop herd immunity, as they still don't know if you can contract it for a second time, as they don't know how long the antibodies last. If you're only "immune" for six or twelve months, then it'll never be possible to get herd immunity

That also rules a vaccine out then I imagine

in which case, what’s the Plan B

Cant carry on like this forever

It doesn't rule a vaccine out, you might just need to take it every 6 or 12 months.

my feeling is that we'll just have to end up living with it, and things like face masks and distancing may be here for several more years yet

So we will need to vaccinate tens of millions of people at least once

We might have to go on to do that every year

In either case we need to build up that capability now! Might as well start by massively ramping that up now with the Winter flu jab in order to ‘protect the NHS’ this Winter

The economy will be devastated if we don’t try to get back to some sense of normality soon. Be absolutely nothing left of the travel industry if these restrictions continue into next summer

I agree with all that mate. I think the travel industry is fucked anyway, it's possibly to late to save it already. I'd be suprised if we're not still in this sort of situation in another 12 months time. I highly doubt many will be going on foreign holidays this side of 2022, and if they do, it'll be wearing masks and social distancing, which might take a lot of the fun and enjoyment out of it

Absolutely. Problem is it isn’t going to just be the travel industry. I wish I could see some sort of positivity but I’m struggling and I ain’t a pessimist by nature.

Vaccines are far more effective and the effect lasts longer. Been covered in the cover thread, but peely will have a useful link.

What do you know about the situation in Slovenia? We have flights there in Sept but I've not booked anything else. We were trying it due to being Italy/Croatia fans.

Indeed, the pub industry will also be totally fucked when they close them down again, which they will do within the next couple of weeks I reckon

As things stand we are still due to go to our place in Spain in a fortnight. Hoping that the situation changes in terms of quarantine

I wouldn't bother, I'd imagine things are about to get worse, just wouldn't take the risk.

Think it’ll be reduced to 10 days, possibly 7 with a test. I’m going Tuesday for 3 weeks, cases outside of Catalonia, Aragón etc are much lower than U.K.  I’m hearing that compliance of masks, social distancing etc is very good in Spain, although you can’t reduce risk to zero I’m not worried and it’s safer being out in the open air than indoors and the Spanish weather means most days I’ll be doing just that.

Yep as things stand we are still going too. Zero cases where we are now and zero where we are going. An acceptable risk, for me.

Just boarded flight to Alicante, airport eerily quiet, flight is about 10% of capacity. On the plus side steward let me sit in seat with extra legroom.

Hey, TMGJ, you have made a massive assumption that it was a female letting Mounts have the legroom seats. I reckon he may have an admirer who maybe whiffs a touch of lavender.

Unless, of course, you were asking How Big Was His Todger?

The hotel I was due to stay at in Ibiza has decided to close its doors for the summer so we changed our holiday to Turkey instead, got some money back and staying at a better hotel........so we thought, found out today that many of the hotels facilities are going to be closed, water park, kids clubs, certain bars etc.

Back on the blower to TUI tomorrow to ask for some money back
