Good effort that. Pity Denly didn't go on further.

Apparently, Root has had a bit of a strop with Aggers: if deserved criticism is what is required to motivate players, then keep it coming.

Strange thing, the mind and the collective mind

Root should acknowledge that some of the shots yesterday were really poor

But, if criticism spurs him on, then he can count on me to remind him of his predilection for sheep

I feel at times Root is a little immature.

Have to be able to take this brickbats as well as the adulation.

Yes protect your colleagues wherever possible, but also acknowledge team deficiencies.

Concern today is he relaxes a little and the team end up still losing fairly heavily. In which case, they won't have really achieved anything, be criticised again and his strop will have been pointless.

Is this in then? Can we do it?

I think we'll have a good idea by lunch.

Get through the second new ball in decent order and it's on.

I'm suspending my day until I know.

Watching this 2nd innings just makes it worse.

The only way they're better than us is that they turned up really wanting to win. We only started trying when it was nearly bloody finished.

They planned better as well

hopefully, it’ll count for nowt!

Think these two, stokes and bairstow, need to get us almost there.

Buttler not done much and wouldn't want to rely on the tail in tense circumstances.

Archer to score the winning run?

Hopefully that was this sessions Root...

Feels like another wicket without getting the ask under 80 is probably curtains.

Having said that, either of the 2 players at the crease should be well placed to try and do it 1 handed farming the tail if we get to that.

Another opportunity for stokes to guide his team home here, a bit like the world cup final.

After the first innings and that run out, he's already had 2 stinker dismissals in this Test - fingers cross it all comes right
