The Noone cross and Magennis headed goal pleased me the most

And rather than slowing the game down getting all the big lads up and lumping it in, Murphy played a quick free kick to Noone, whipped in ball and goal. Their defensive life caught completely off guard.

Does beg the question of what Murphy had done to warrant a clear freezing out? Or was it the standard PP approach of removing someone for no reason whatsoever when it is clear they could help the side...

The Noone cross and Magennis headed goal pleased me the most, if you look on youtube at Magennis's goals at Charlton many of them were scored in that style.

Get it wide and get some decent crosses in and the lad will score.

That can be Parkys mission for the rest of the season - it might just work.

Much as we would all like this to be the case I just can't see it happening. Many on here have been advocating something like that for ages - playing wingers on their right side, higher tempo, getting players in the box and crosses in.

Football is really a simple game but you wouldn't believe that listening to some Managers. They all think they are some kind of tactical geniuses and it's oh so complicated - too complicated for us simple supporters to understand.

Much as I like PP as a person he over complicates and over thinks things. But we live in hope!

2 Saturday home league games in Jan becomes 2 night matches. Don't know why they schedule a championship games on 4th round day, what's the chanoes of it being played.

Approx half of the Championship teams can be expected to reach 4th round, so 25% or so, say 3 of the 12 matches will go ahead, with the rest moved back 3 or 4 days to midweek. But the alternative is to schedule them all for midweek, leaving several teams without a weekend match.

I like PP but he seems to select teams and sets us out with fear and not  to have a go at the oppositions, we need to stop that and have a go in every game from now until the end of the season, 1 up top isn’t the answer as has been proved all season.

"That day we got smashed at home to United in the Cup and they had 10k there"

Be a Black Sunday style mental scar that, but possibly a necessity.

I'm at the stage where only money matters. I don't even want to attend bolton v man u as it would be embarrassing, i'd rather attend Accrington away. But I don't need to go to games, I just want the club to survive.

Back in the day even top tier had fixtures arranged for each weekend apart from the first FA Cup appearance.

So in 1909 Bradford City were due to be at home on the day of each succeeding round:

6/2 v Sheffield United rearranged for 27/3 (itself an FA Cup day),

20/2 v Nottingham Forest rearranged for 30/3,

6/3 v Chelsea postponed for weather and rearranged for 20/4,

27/3 v ManUnited rearranged for 29/4,

24/4 was Cup Final day, but the final set of normal league fixtures was held including BradC v Notts County.

All fixtures had to be played by 30/4 as football was only played if there was an R in the month.

Champions Newcastle had a hectic final week:

24/4 won away at Blackburn,

26/4 lost away to Aston Villa,

28/4 won the (next season's) Charity Shield v Southern League champs Northampton at Stamford Bridge,

30/4 lost at home to Liverpool but presented with League Trophy - this win for Liverpool lifted them from 19th (a relegation spot) to 16th, and in the process relegated ManCity (who had not been in the bottom two all season and were 17th after their last match on 28/4).

Agree with both but I don’t see him changing it in the league. Even though we all know he should

in league 1 and instances like today he backs the team to be better than the opposition. Gives them the freedom to go and play. Take the shackles off really

in this league he’s basically telling everyone by how he sets up we’re better than no one and anything we get we’ve pinched.

He just needs to be braver in his selections, the formation and our approach to games. We’re going down with the current approach but I’d rather go down fighting with a bloody nose than curling up and rolling over

Last hat trick by a player not on loan in a league game? Has got to be a record in professional football surely.

Just had a look on Wikipedia and this can’t be right surely?

John McGinlay vs Middlesbrough (H) 3rd April 1994 (inc 1 pen)

There were NO hat tricks in the league in the 100 goal 1996-97 season, that shocked me, loads of 2s but no one got a third.

I must have missed one in a later season surely???

Don't you think this just devalues the cup even more. There will be championship teams like Wigan and forest thinking thank God we're out, we can get some points while the rest are playing in the cup, or not at all. Make the knocked out teams have a blank weekend so that they regret losing, they might even try harder in the 3rd round.

Some people have other commitments.

Today I got far more enjoyment from watching my son and daughter compete in the Lancs XC @ Witton Park.

Theres a fine line between being a top fan and someone with nothing else going on in their life.

We all know plenty of these types of people in life.

Hopefully this result will breed some confidence.

Well said. I've done all the dreary 3rd round home ties v Swansea, Grimsby etc over past few years. I'll be giving up a full day tomorrow coaching a group of kids through an athletics comp, have a missus at home who puts up with that and me doing stuff like going to Hull the other day. She deserved a bit of time today. Hope that's ok with you HomerJay, we all have our reasons for going and not going when we do.

Genuine question casino, when did you last miss a competitive home game?

Genuine question gets a genuine answer

Missed a couple last season due to being on holiday

About ten in 40 odd years, mostly shitty cup games, but there was no way I was missing today

Nowt else in my life and I'd still not want to be captain med

This is correct.

He scored 2 others, one against Charlton the month before this and  Spurs in the cup.

No-one should have to feel they must justify not going to a football match, for whatever reason, at whatever time and under whatever circumstances. Especially these days and especially not ones who've put time, effort and money in all over the country down the years.

I used to be self righteous about all that, then I grew up.
