The deflection put the ball in the only place that could have beaten Matthews, he was desperately unlucky, if it hadn’t taken the deflection no player in the world could have made the ball hurtle down & into the goal at the angle that it did - total fluke. It reminded me of a goal against England in Italia ‘90 - wicked deflection off Paul Parkers boot and sent it spinning into the air & beat Shilton in the only area of the goal that could have beaten him. Other than Shilton at the time couldn’t jump over a fag paper, he was finished at that level by then. Still gives me shivers that goal.
