Who said to look east, far far East? Was that H?

Wasn't it that John Galt character? Thought he implied possible Thai investment?

As one of the idiots drawn to Howard's magnetic posts I thought about this a bit.

Although I tried to make the case for it I don't think he or she works in PR, or at least every PR person I've ever worked with didn't behave in some of the ways H has, ie getting into personal spats, calling people cunts in PM's etc. Dispassionate media professionals don't behave in that way, but supporters with an emotional investment do, particularly at this time of heightened stress, so my first conclusion is that H is a genuine BWFC supporter and given that's something that a lot of the players aren't, that's a big plus in my book.

The same goes for an influencing operation where there are higher profile and more accessible channels where one could more effectively operate. Forums however are excellent platform for distributing longer form content, for laying out and explaining detail and so my second take was H was trying to put some relatively complex concepts into the public arena.

Who was the target of this info? In the first instance BWFC supporters who may have otherwise bought the party line or the simplified beyond utility version that makes it to the Bolton News. Then, tantalisingly, perhaps other parties to this, H referenced game theory after all. As to the truth of it, I think there was probably some good information, some misinformation and some outright fibs, which is what one would expect in a time of war. It all seemed to be info that raised the pressure on KA to do a deal or perhaps encourage others watching to act before they lost their chance? To flush out or flush away bidders? JCookie's guessm above about a connection to the trust could be a runner.

Not sure we'll know but I found H a decent person on the whole and the Bahrain story was a bit of hope to pass on to my long suffering BWFC supporting family as they've sat back and watched their club disintegrate over the past few years.

Mr Galt linked Howard with ceramics, that was possibly one China connection.

Howard clearly knew more about aquisitions/mergers/takeovers/admin/liquidation etc than most on here and some of his posts were helpful and gave us hope.

However 3 whoppers stand out for me -

1 - Ken will have his shares taken from him by ED’s trust.

 2 - The Bahraini Prince.

3 - Bassini will take ownership of the club tomorrow.

All turned out to be bollocks.

He didn’t help himself by calling  a Wways poster a cunt via PM and accusing him of being a wife beater.

I very much doubt Howard was working as a PR rep for  a company looking at buying us, i would imagine he was just a knowledgeable and well meaning BWFC sympathiser who got involved on here a bit deeper than he originally intended.

It’s been entertaining at times though.

Preston North End is how a club like ours should be run, what we'd do to be in their shoes right now.

Jon Gault was clearly connected with KA, Howard clearly had them uneasy about something as they felt the need to come on and challenge him - That’s enough credibility for me that Howard was closer to it than 99.9% of the rest of us

His story never quite stacked up though, apparently starting to watch is in 1997 cup game against Spurs, next minute on about Julian Derby’s leg break. However, the bit that was the biggest stretch for me was the U turn on Bassini, when ‘he’ said they would fund Basinni

The rest of it If was plausible, Bahrain prince, meh! Sheffield United are owned by a Saudi Prince. plenty of them about and they like to invest in football clubs. It’s as plausible on paper as the Chinese state buying us

Still not quite sure who he was employed by or why, he’s had a pop at Ken, Balti face and Basinni along the way. Only leaves EDT really but that doesn’t feel quite right either - fuck knows

Aren’t they massively reliant on Trevor Hemmings’ money?

Yes, but they do have a benefactor who puts in £6/7m pounds every year.

As long as the owner is prepared for this scenario then it works.

On the footy side, they have been prepared to gamble on lower league/Irish youngsters and most of them have worked out ok and have a beneficial sell-on value

Wonder how many clubs looked at us when we were riding the crest of a benefactor wave and said “wish we had one of those”

and Rovers in walkers day.

Everyone slagging Salford off currently as they’re benefiting from relatively deep pockets. Every club in the football league is looking for it. You enjoy it when you have it. Moan like fuck and look enviously on when others do.

PNE- decent gesture and I like the way they go about their transfer business. Scouting players from the lower leagues who can step up. They put their faith in that and get rewarded. Everything else about them can do one. Nothing club

If John Galt is Aldridge, then H posting and being read by Aldridge with a direct line to KA could be a motive - ensuring KA kept under pressure by H’s narrative? Strange that both  John Galt and Howard Roark are characters in different novels by Ayn Rand , who only ever wrote 4 books, hhmmmmm

The John Galt character was clearly a bite back to the Howard Roark one. Not sure if they’re sworn enemies or the ying and yang in said books but it was definitely a conscious ploy to draw battle lines

leads me to think JG was inside KA’s circle

Think the Chinese interest will evaporate unfortunately leaving a smaller consortium of  a more local interest with maybe an outside backer its all had to be done on the cheap given the huge cost/ debt issues & complications between Moonshift & Sweaty.

Just guessing of course.

You're probably right, and usually I'm a right miserable cunt, but I am surprising myself with how glass half full I am about the current situation....

The question that keeps coming back to me about the Chinese is - Why are they back in the picture now if they're not interested? To still be sniffing around now, points to it being serious interest, heading over making there presence known in a highest bidder takes it all situation also strikes me as part of them showing there hand in this... Who can compete with them financially if they really want it? May mean they have a free run at it and perversely get it cheaper.

It's Bolton though ain't it and it'll end up kicking me in the nuts, and reverting me back to miserable cunt mode when Bassini wins the admin raffle...

Ask him next season after his manager has been 'poached'.

The one ray of hope that we have with regard to the vetting of any potential bid led by Bassini is that Shaun Harvey will have by then stepped down as Chief Executive of the EFL  -  he steps down at the end of the season  , which I assume to be after the last of this seasons play off games.

I am just hoping that given what has gone on to date with Bassini will prompt  the EFL to use the opportunity when they appoint a new chief executive , who will be in situ should Bassini bid for the club , to at the very least tighten up on the process as to their "fit and proper " persons test , so that  he falls at that hurdle.

The attached article https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47278842  concludes by saying that the senior EFL clubs will be looking for a replacement they feel acts more in their interests .

Surely preventing the likes of Anderson and Bassini bidding and owning clubs and damaging the brand that is the EFL should be in everyone's interests .

There's no relationship between the characters in the novels, each of which is really a vehicle for Ayn Rand to outline her objectivist philosophy.

If you know Atlas Shrugged however it's quite amusing reading people on here asking 'Who is John Galt' as this question is central to the plot and is repeated ad infinitum.

I think the law of the land ties the EFL's hands in regard to how strict they can make the criteria for owning a club. Even if there was the desire to implement a greater degree of scrutiny, the moment someone is prevented from selling their asset to someone else there's a chance they'll be heading to the High Court and alleging restraint of trade.
