gonzo
Villas owners injected £68m in 2018 to stop them being liquidated. £68 million. They’re about 10 places above us in the football league. The game has to implode at some point.

No doubt clicks equate to cash, but I see the potential for that stance to hugely backfire. If the BN cannot be relied upon for accuracy, and becomes little more than an opinion based forum. Much like this or any other. Isn't there a danger that numbers drop as does revenue and it ceases to be? They do need to retain some level of credibility; or they may well start to lose the ear of contacts etc. There is one major difference between BN being an opinion-based medium and Wanderersways being an opinion based medium. Numbers of correspondents. BN has a journalist (Iles) giving an opinion and a Sports Editor (Bonnar) agreeing with his opinion. It'd be a bit like every poster on here being on moderator preview and only those posters who agree with Happy Wanderer, Casino, Carlos and Horwich making it as far as being read by the populace. It'd make for a pretty shit forum and wouldn't have the longevity of the current Wanderersways forum. And THAT'S why the Bolton News is dying on its arse. This is OUR club, irrespective of players, managers, owners, backers. They all come and go; the constant at Bolton Wanderers and any other football club is us; the supporters. We're the ones trying to pick up the pieces when that implosion happens.

Not sure about implode, but eventually there will be a premier league and maybe a premier league 2 and the rest will be 2 bob outfits. The NFL sustains 32 team from a population of 325m , we try and keep 92 going from 53m. Although TV money comes in from all the round the world but that is coming for Shrewsbury V Bolton. So much money split between so few with so many with no money.

gonzo
Aye I’m pretty sure premier league viewing figures swamp anything on offer worthwhile. Its an age old concern but the wealth just isn’t spread how it should be. No club in the 92 should be struggling to survive with the amount of money generated by the game in this country. Like you say instead of it being spread better we will end up with two premier leagues and clubs will fold left right and centre.

barrycowdrill
Problem with that is the PL and EPL operate as 2 separate entities so the money earned in the PL stays right there there is no cascade to the other 72 clubs. Well, aside from transfer fees which are very very rare the EPL isn’t really that attractive from a commercial perspective so everyone is feeding off crumbs the financial gap between teams in the champ who have recently been in the Prem and the ones who haven’t is getting greater all the time. Not too dissimilar to the top 6 and the rest in the Prem
