Newport tonight

Just watched this League 2 side totally dismantle Championship heavyweights Boro playing with spirit, aggression, skill, willingness to want the ball and organisation. Remember the excuses PP came out with when we let them run all over us up at the Riverside ' well what do you expect ' ' how can our guys compete against their team with the transfer fees they cost ' . Great to see such enthusiasm and determination and great to see them get their just deserts. Their manager and the team are a credit to the town and I hope they put the same effort in against City something tells me they will. What would we give to see our lot have a go like that !

Do you think Newport would survive a season in the Championship?

Probably not and neither will we if something doesn't change pretty quick. It was just refreshing to see a team go out and give it a go

Agree entirely.

Giving the players sense of belief instead of continually undermining them by saying they are cheap so can't expect better.

More about covering his own arse in our case.

It's the cup, biggest game these lads will play in ever, the whole of the town is behind them; same town didn't give a fuck when they dropped out of the league in 1988. Dean Holdsworth was their manager not so long as ffs. It's the FA Cup, that's what it's all about.

Not "that long ago" since we were beating Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal, Everton, Villa...

But those days are a million years ago!

we were beating them more recently in the league mind

Shrewsbury had a right go at Wolves, the best footballing side I've seen this year. Shrewsbury still 2nd bottom of League One... Can't do it week in, week out. End of.

which is exactly what their manager said

good players but inconsistent

Quit right. I suppose that's the difference between a top professional and a reasonable one.

That inner strength to keep pushing themselves game after game.

I always think of Kevin Davies in that way, not the most talented technically, but application was never in doubt and made the absolute most of himself.

But how do we know how many times they are playing out of their skin? It can't just be based on results coz both teams could be having a stormer, yet 1 still loses. I just wish we could play once or twice a season like Newport have in their 5 or 6 cup ties in the last 13 months, even if our great matches are in the cup too.
