I remember legging it round from the Burnden paddock, doing my bit then racing up Manny road for my bus. That may have been a couple of years before. A 1-4 home defeat to Bristol City. Stones chucked at the executive suite and a shop window smashed (may have been the pie shop.

Site Supporter MickyD Posted February 22, 2019 Author Site Supporter Share Posted February 22, 2019 Same guy has posted another pic. Now THIS was when I started watching Bolton. It is often said a lad could lift his feet up off the floor and still move up Manny Road.

Nobster
I remember Luton brought a large mob all dressed in white boiler suites “clockwork orange” style, they marched down Manny Road then tried to take the Lever End.

One lad in a Crombie skipped into a taxi and out the other side to try to get away and ran up some back streets opposite Orlando Bridge. Won't give too much detail but I lost half of a front tooth when he twatted me with a coal shovel in the back yard he was hiding in. Fond memories. If I remember rightly, they weren't dislodged from the spot in the Lever End they took? Besides the Clockwork Orange get ups, anyone remember the afro's sprayed with gold paint? About 6 of us were stood on Manny Rd outside the ground when they all came towards us. They had 'war paint' on & the rumour was that the main boys were Arsenal. I thought they got shifted away from the middle of the Lever End? Anyway, the following Tuesday/Wednesday, we were playing at York & everybody raided Boots make up department to nick some 'war paint' - actually different shades of lipstick!!! That look never made it to another game surprisingly.

Luton appeared in the corner of the Lever End very late, around kick off time, & with quite a lot of them wearing warpaint & some darts being thrown, they came as a bit of a shock but once the surprise had passed, Bolton fans charged over to them & they didn't last long since they didn't have anywhere near the numbers to survive on the Lever End. As i remember it, they were gone before half time. As someone mentioned, the following game at York, a good number of Bolton fans wore " warpaint" but thankfully that was a one off. MancWanderer
Was that Luton game the 72/73 promotion season? My first full season if it was and I remember two massive crowds - think one was this and one was Blackburn(???) - I stand to be corrected though I do remember being stood on a milk crate on the Burnden Paddock and seeing a big kick-off in the Lever End with blokes dressed oddly and my Dad commenting on their "outfits" - if I'm correct I didn't remember it as Clockwork Orange but then I would only have been 8 at the time
