I think we should have batted first - these are dry pitches and I think the scoring will not be quite as excessive as earlier in the summer. Spin will be more difficult to play. But what worries me is how this team look so, so different from the one we saw a few weeks back. Even against SA it was nervy batting. maaarsh Posted June 3, 2019 Share Posted June 3, 2019 Hard to understand why the coach and captain still send Ali in this far up - he's been a nightmare with the bat for 2 or 3 years now. Even his good days are boundaries surrounded by lots of dots. Â 2 great individual performances today, surrounded by lots of dross but nearly got there. Just need to hope a few rain offs against the weaker teams doesn't leave them with too much pressure later on against decent sides. Â Not convinced the chasing preference works under world cup pressure either - top order looks very nervy with it. Bat first today on that pitch Pakistan wouldn't have had a prayer. We nearly chased it but in reality would have got there if we’d been more aggressive from about 35 overs on. But something isn’t right. Felt that way against South Africa who in truth were poor and definitely felt that way today. Is it the pressure? We’ve beaten everyone since 2015 near enough and most we’ve not just beaten we’ve destroyed. But now we look nervy and are trying to take 8/9 an over into the last ten...that’s not how we’ve been playing before. I hope it’s the kick up the arse they need but they need to improve. Rashid is one of the leading wicket takers over recent times. Plunket also highly effective in the middle overs. Do concede a few runs in fairness but we're a decent side. The thought that a team having lost 3 games and finished 4th might win the final against a team who has won every game seems bizarre. A bit like the rugby league I suppose.
