1972-73 season

First game of the season, home to Bournemouth 3-0 to the Super Whites. I remember the manny road north giving John Aston plenty of stick as an ex-man u player. My first experience of the hatred of them.

That season we went on to win the league and it was the start of a turn around in fortune for the club.

All Lancashire clubs won all the leagues that year.

What a year that was. Amazing Jim.

My first home game of any kind was a division 3 game at home to runaway leaders Reading , we won 2-0 surprisingly.

on the violence front my first ever game was Forest away in the Milk Cup in 1985 , I was only 10 at the time but it seemed like a right battle during the game , I'm sure some people who were there that night will be able to recollect it better than I can remember.

Bolton 2 Reading 0 - 1985/6. Warren Joyce header from the edge of the box, Stuart Ripley (on loan from Boro) dragged down for our pen. All filmed from the Burnden Stand - so a good view of the Manny Road and the bit of the Embankment that had only 12 months left to live before being dug up to make way for Normid.

I still have that 45 record “when we hear the Burnden roar” happy days

"Here we go again"? Believe it or not, I have it somewhere. My send off when emigrating was at the Strawbury Duck and it was on the jukebox.

I played it over and over again so the lads persuaded the landlord to take it out of the Wurlitzer and give it to me! Secretly, I think they just wanted me to stop playing the fucking thing.

Anyone remember an old grey haired chap, dark rim specs that used to go every where watching Wanderers.  Think he was called Fred?

He was a whinging old bugger always moaning and I remember that Reading game because he was stood whinging behind me ignoring the fact we were 2 up against the division leaders.  Being a gobby 16 year old then, I snapped and asked him why he bothered coming.  I didn't half get some shit off his mates!

I stand corrected - Newport really went through the mill around about that time. Serves them right for employing John Aldridge

I've got the 4-0 that was Ripley's debut and will post it. That was 85/6. I have the 6-0 in 87/8 too but its very poor quality.
