Road trip round Ireland

Not sure if it's too far out of your way, but don't pay if you go to giant's causeway. Apparently, there's a public footpath, but the (national trust?) have an entry which fools people into thinking they have to pay.

Saw an article not too long ago about it. Upset quite a few apparently.

Going for 5 nights in july boat to Dubin and Boat back from Belfast.

What in the middle is not to be missed or best recommendations to stop over?

Thanks in advance

I went in November for the wife's birthday but went over the other side not that it's too far. Had 1 night in Galway which is a cracking city, plenty of boozers. Fairly commercialised but would pay it another visit.

Had 1 night in Westport. Again, plenty of boozers, mainly on 1 street. Not a great deal else going on in terms of sightseeing but a quality stop off.

We started with 2 nights in Sligo which is lovely, not as commercialised as Galway, more going on than Westport. Travelling along the wild atlantic way though every road seems to be on that. Can't get too lost, main places are well signposted and the traffic is fairly light.

Had a drive up to Dundalk but not much there apart from a castle which takes 20 mins to walk around. Really enjoyed the trip though - particularly Sligo

Go feeshing. Though I've heard some damage has been done to stocks in loughs through poaching.

Hard border might help?

Yep.

Perhaps I should look at a carp/bream fishery in the style of a trout fishery- pay for a session with a take home of one or two fish.

Back to Ireland though- I've always fancied going and having a fish in one of the many lakes. Supposed to have been excellent sport at one time.

Flew into Dublin and hired a car a while back. One day/night in Dublin. Then 2 nights down in Cork. From there we explored the Ring of Kerry, Blarney Castle and Killarney. Then had a night in Dungarvan and visited Waterford and then Kilkenny on the way back up to Dublin.

On another occasion I took my own car over on the ferry from Holyhead and did Swords/Malahide and down to Bray (as well as Dublin).

And finally, also flown into Belfast, stayed near Bangor and did Giant's Causeway, Bushmills, Carrick-o-Rede rope bridge, plus Bangor and Belfast.

Great if you get the weather!

As well as the reccomendations for the West , which I agree with, the ring of Kerry drive is a nice way to spend time then head up back across towards Belfast , but it’s a long way when you’ve only 5 days ,  depending what you are interested in, calling it at Cashel to see the rock or Kilkenny as mentioned gives you more time in each place.

if you want a different sporting experience, take in a GAA game, especially a county hurling match for a good experience.

Depends what type of thing you’re after won’t go wrong for scenery, drink or historical stuff whichever way you go.

If you're going to Dublin and then looping up to the North and then back down to Belfast I would certainly recommend the Antrim Coast taking in Portstewart, Portrush and Coleraine. Stunning places. Giants Causeway and Bushmills distillery both well worth a look

If you're up there and eating, make sure that you order the tobacco onions - awesome food

I would also usually recommend a visit to Derry but now is maybe not a great time if you're driving on an English plate. Tremendous city but far too easy to end up in the wrong place if you don't know where you're going

Oh.....and once again, order the tobacco onions as a side dish with any food that you get. And the Guinness up there is way better than any in the South imo

Taking my own car over to carry the cases for the lads doing it on bikes.

Cheers lads some great ideas. Going in July so reallly hoping for the weather so can do the coast roads but the night out on every stop is the main part for me, want to see some real irish pubs music the lot. Is this a possibility or is it a pure fantasy reserved for Ed Sheran videos???

Every town I visited had live music, you can’t go wrong
