I find the conspiracy theory on this really interesting and quite convincing in places but how many people would they have to keep silent all these years? Hundreds, at least.

Thousands involved. But only a few actually know the details. Some are dead. They rest don't won't to be dead.

Thousands involved indeed, don't you think a lot more would have come forward.

None mooners are as batty as flat earthers  IMO.

I find it odd that in the space of 66 years, from not being able to fly at all, we have launched folk into space and then on to the moon. But in the 50 years since we have not sent a man 1 inch further.

10 people have walked on the moon since the initial landings. Nobody gave a fuck though.

Don’t forget

The space race meant a huge % of GDP was spent on being first to the moon

A proxy war for capitalism vs communism if you will

Follk are more pragmatic now, hard to make a case for spending so much public money on what’s essentially a vanity project

We have robots on Mars looking around and doing tests and stuff, personally don't see the point in having someone spend 7 months getting there just to have a mooch around

We also have people living on space stations these days as well but there's not really any where else they can go till someone invents hyperspace

Like I said. 66 years from nothing to the moon. Nowt else. Since the dawn of man we have always wanted to find out what's around the next corner by physically going there. Why have we suddenly stopped? It's all about physical exploration. Apparently we've advanced from Kitty Hawk to the moon. That is a massive advancement in technology. Now it's robots digging holes? I'm more willing to accept robots digging holes on distant rocks than accepting man walking on the moon.

We've not stopped, NASA never stop though they are limited by budgets

We currently have Juno orbiting Jupiter for example

But it took 5 years to get there

And it's as much about politics

My argument is about sending man. Not a probe or robot. Some of the great explorers of the past didn't have government backing.

Everything's gone backwards as technology has gone forward though.

Back then we had his famous "one small step" speech delivered to expectant millions.

If he did it now he'd just text " 1 small step 4 me, 1 giant LEEP for mnkind  x"

Meanwhile Buzz'd be in the lunar module cracking one out to lunarpornhub

Yeah but they didn't need rockets

There's a few private companies knocking about now and there are plans to send a man to mars by 2030 but no one is going living there like total recall style or anything

Then what? There's nowhere else for man to go unless you think someone will give up 10+ years of their life to do a fly by and catch a glimpse of Jupiter or Saturn with their own eyes

They didn't need rockets. You are correct. They needed ships. Their equivalent.

Anyway, my question. Man on the moon in such a short period of time and no further? A good one to question.

Ok, the next question is where should they go, and why?

It's not like they sat idly with loads of unexplored planets to go and visit

Theres only Mars, and they're planning on going and one reason why we haven't so far is it's expensive

There's still folk living on space stations, probes orbiting planets in the solar system and satellites discovering new stars and galaxies on a regular basis, but nowt as exciting as star trek

You go somewhere that's not been visited before. That's how it normally works. If the moon landings did happen then we seem to have stopped.
