Ok folks,

I'm not a massive gambler, however I do like a little flutter. I normally expect to throw a fiver a week away, but maybe have a few quid on the sly. I had a 10/1 come in last week, and that will set me up for a month or so on the qt. (missus doesn't approve)

Other than my kiddie gambling, is there an honest format for keeping track of results? An informal league table or exchange of suggestions, whilst tracking those who are reliable?

Apologies if I've missed owt

Depends what you are looking for mate. If you are simply happy to have a little adrenaline rush from time to time and are willing to burn a fiver each week to get it then go for your life. Pick names you like; use a pin or pick a favourite saddlecloth number. You'll have as much a chance as any other recreational punter. The odd 10/1 win keeps you in and most tend to lose sight of the fact they lose a lot more than they win. Recreational past time innit? Comes at a cost.

I have to win and I've had a lot of years at this - constantly learning through hard knocks and have honed gained knowledge (often gained through painful experience) into a system which pays off. Not in huge lumps but small bites at a time which results in a handy payout  - usually in May each year.

One of the things I learned is that bookmakers and casino's love people who want to risk little to win big but despise and in some cases fear a punter with a decent wedge who wants to consistently win a little. We all know that accumulators are regarded as bookies retirement funds but millions put them on, week in, week out. They just sit back, smile and rub their hands together.

Around six years ago, I finally settled on football doubles as my annual profit generator. Usually 4 or 5 gun teams and stick with them all season. A couple of seasons back Juventus and Napoli were a staple and last season Juventus, Man City, PSG and Liverpool in a variety of doubles based on which two I thought were most likely to win each weekend and gave mimimum odds of 4/9.

This season it's Holland and Portugal doing the heavy lifting with cast iron results so far from combinations involving Ajax, PSV, Benfica and Porto (all four clubs won again last weekend).

Not for everyone and if you're only risking a deep sea diver, hardly worth the effort as you might end up somewhere between fifty and a hundred quid up each year.

My grandmother used to bet a fiver a week each Saturday on the first horse she came across with the word 'Red' in its name. Used to drive my grandad fucking mad when she'd have multiple collects whilst he would burn the midnight oil assessing trainers, jockeys, going, barrier draws, horses for courses etc., etc., place his multiples bets and usually bomb out :D
