I'll go with your last paragraph; it's just the mechanism of activism.

I debated with LR at the beginning of this thread about this sort of action alienating folk. One Mon interviewed yesterday telling xr straight that this is exactly what they are doing.

Why not have their marches, then hold an event for example in Hyde park or similar. Publicise their message, hold events for kids and adults alike, have workshops to help folk understand issues and enable them to do more themselves, and invite companies one organisations with ideas and solutions to put themselves into the public domain more.

Get more onside instead of creating division. That would be more powerful, particularly in pressing MPs.

Their argument is that there have been decades of marches and leaflets and posters and nobody cares. So I guess considering the urgency they say that this action gets headlines and puts this on the agenda.

Given the lack of a response to the biggest crisis facing the world - they might argue - what else is there to do?

This needed a response years and years ago. We're now at the point of no return. So I guess shock tactics are what they consider the only way - they probably feel that gentle cajouling has run out of time.

I'm not talking about leaflets. The information about the dangers is readily available.

What we need are solutions, that are available to us as individuals, as well as lobbying MPs.

Call it an environmental expo if you want, give the majority of folk the opportunity to start the ball rolling. That might give MPs and government confidence to introduce difficult measures.

Get local government involved too within the whole process.

But their view (not mine necessarily) is that superglue gets the headlines an expo doesn't - it penetrates the population's consciousness. 

I'm a bit conflicted on their tactics. But I take their point - instead of bellyaching about tactics we should be discussing the massive fooking disaster we're inviting on. As others have said its as serious as a nuclear war - if one of those was imminent everyone would be behind every effort to avert it. 

Basic things like everyone refusing to vote for any party who aren't putting the climate crisis front and centre over and above everything else and talking about a comprehensive plan all the time. That is something we could all do. If we care.

XR are a very broad church by definition. The answer to some of the more extreme elements hijacking it would be to flood it with people on the middle ground.

And to be fair - they could all be anarchists as far as I'm concerned as long as they get the job done. This apathy amongst the general public beggars belief. People are either too thick to understand or are wilfully ignoring the evidence because they can't cope with what the realities mean. At least the first lot haven't got a choice.

Therein lies the issue. If folk can't cope with certain realities, will they accept a government that tries to act in the right way?

Dunno if anyone saw any of this afternoon's SI debates (not straighteners) on environmental issues but some promising cross party stuff (as well as the usual dick head stuff) and comments that the government are itching to bring forward some new plans in this regard.

Now that proroguing has been done, get Queeny to do her bit, get brexit sorted and then move this on to its proper priority status.

If they did what you suggest would it generate enough interest for 12 pages on here ? Might not agree with them but in terms of getting folk talking it is working.

Fuck all those wankers off, don't disrupt the lawful movements of the everyday citizen and the majority of us will be far more inclined to lend our support as, just as Kent has hinted at, the vast majority are accepting of the science and what we can see with our own eyes and realise that the changes already being made plus some more on top are necessary.

In the meantime, I just want to see the crusty cretins either baton charged, water cannoned or sentence to hard fucking labour.
