socialists preventing freedom of speech shock

Because Mr. Murdock has been a long time defender of truth, democracy & free press 😆👍

XR also spoke publicy the other day stating they are not a socialist organisation.

Not defending the recent protests or XR.

It's a daft protest.

But the idea that delaying some papers is an attack on 'free press' is just nonsense.

Murdock's media are notorious for spreading misinformation & outright denial about the climate crisis across the globe.

For all their faults - The Guardian have been one of the few papers to consistently highlight the seriousness of the crisis & amplify the voice of scientists.

Anyway, as said, I'm not defending the protests. Just find the overreaction amusing.

Sorry about your paper 👍

Nope, they are Anarchists.
Its Murdoch. Sorry to be pedantic but my teachers were pedantic which is why I can now spell correctly.

You really need to read some history books, not the YouTube stuff that you seem to get most of your history from.

Trying to suppress the newsprint media (NP) has been at the forefront of all far left and far right political activists since printing was invented.

You’re either the most gullible teacher I’ve ever known (actually, I take that back, most of the teachers....) or your a convert trying to portray an acceptable face of Anarchy.

Just like BLM, ER have jumped on genuine causes (racism and climate change) and are using their far, far left tactics to destabilise.
It won’t work.

Edit.

Sorry, forgot to mention it’s Murdoch. You can blame spell check once but not twice. In fact Murdock doesn’t even come up on spellcheck.

You forgot the apostrophe in your "its". Sorry to be be pedantic, I'm not the type to police these things outside the classroom, but you started it :)

The names always get me - I've been confusing the sound at the end of the herbal soft drink with the media mogul. It's a tough old language.

Ridiculous time to start a climate rebellion of this nature. It's impossible to socially distance if you're getting arrested. Wonder how many officers and families they're putting under uneccessary risk. A lot of people have left XR recently, some saying that they're not radical enough and others saying that they have become too woke. Not sure the argument that they are all anarchists adds up to be honest.

I’ll accept my 99% test score. Better than my English O level. Glad to see people leaving XR. I’m sure more will follow.
If you are really concerned about climate change, disassociate  yourself from that band of nutters. We can all make a difference without politics.

Why jump to conclusions about where I get my information from? I did three History modules at university and I've read 'a proper' history book before. And why keep on bringing up my profession? Has that got anything to do with what we're discussing?

I'm aware that communist and nationalist activists have saught to suppress the media before. But this is hardly on a scale with that. It's a poorly thought out action but they are hardly suppressing the press. The papers were delayed, not burnt or stolen or suppressed. It was a one off stunt to raise awareness against a media corporation that has been actively spreading false information and denying climate change.

Sun journalists were banned by Liverpool and Everton supporters last year. Is that classed as suppression?

I would agree that the majority of those involved with ER are left wing and that their tactics are to disrupt and destabilise. I don't agree with much of what they do these days. But arguing that they are all anarchists is just not a reflection on the reality. Have you spoken to people who are invovled in the movement?

The inaction on climate change we are seeing by large businesses and goverment is putting our already frazzled economy on a cliff edge. This is far more of a threat to destabalising this country than the tactics of ER. Just a shame that protesting on this cause is dominated by folk on the left.

So much to absorb without correcting the grammar. 😊

I’ll be back as Arnie said. 👍

Consumers can lead the way.

Apparently, last year 10% of new car registrations were for electric cars. Ok, they do have some concerns associated with them, but there is clearly an increasing demand for change.

Nutters causing chaos just weakens the mesaage.

Agree in this case. Especially during a pandemic.

But we can't rely on consumer choice... it's too urgent. As well as switching to electric cars we need to reshape our towns and cities to make walking and cycling more accessible and safer. We need a reduction in cars, whether electric or not. Whilst those providing a service such as gardeners, builders etc. are protected. This takes huge intervention from national and local government.

Actually, after reading that, I’ll give it a miss. Good luck with your anarchy. It won’t work.

The grammar police 😆 I'm not re-reading these posts today.

Apologies if it sounds like I'm having a go in that last post. I'm not & I get a lot of your points. Just didn't understand why you were making it personal.

Same - need to watch the rest of this game. 👍

I would love to read your definition of anarchy sometime mate.

I'm not claiming it will work. We're fucked & it's too late. Which is why so many climate scientists are currently going through therapy. Happy days 😁🍺

Yes it does. But push too hard and you won't bring the public with you or risk an economic collapse.

The interventions need to be carrot and stick, and investment in new technologies with some legislation to back it up.

I recently contacted vauxhall to enquire about their new electric van. (Sent details and they failed to respond, but that's another story). Some government contribution available but it would appear to be the best part of 40k to start with, so I won't be bothering. That's why it can't be foisted upon folk too quickly.
