It's bees that don't sting without reason. They know that stinging is a last resort and will result in their death. Wasps, on the other hand are happy to sting and, because of the lack of barb, sting again.

I fondly recall, and still laugh, driving back from a fire along Nelson Street when the Sub Officer at the side of me suddenly started break dancing in his seat. A wasp had flown through the window and inside his t-shirt. It stung him so he jumped and thrust his back into the seat. This merely pissed the wasp off a touch so it stung him again. Repeat the jump and thrust a further six times. Once back at the station he removed his shirt and there were eight red circles each about an inch from the previous one in a line down his back.

I'll post some down to you.

Unfortunately, I think many bees are twatted as they tend to be mis-indentified as wasps.
