Chicksen

When we heard at Rotherham that Chicksen was our new left back, who had heard of him?  Released by Div 2 Bradford aged about 27, he had to be dire.  And his 1st game didn't alter that view with a 6-1 defeat.  Since then, for me the most consistent performer.  When the ball comes to him, he controls it faultlessly and passes simply and intelligently 9 times out of 10.  I may be being generous because I've been used to watching Taylor for the last few years and before that Moxey, but how did those 2 players get 100+ Championship appearances in their career and Chicksen is struggling to find any club at all?  Simply a far better footballer, I keep expecting him to be found out, but he never is.  We have better players, like Bridcutt and arguably Verlinden, but what sets him apart is that he hardly makes any mistakes, whereas those 2 players are hit and miss, good one minute but giving the ball away the next.  Chicksen hardly ever wastes possession, and unlike our previous left backs wants the ball, wants to attack, and isnt embarrassed to receive the ball in tight situations.  He can be our left back for the next 3 years whatever division we are in (not sure where that leaves Bunney).

Chicksen is quality not sure why he got released.

O'grady is playing out of his skin. He's 38 (?) lacks pace but is on it. Proper good addition hope he's got legs for a safety battle!

Everyone else... Same... Thought they'd be shit and they aren't. KHSWA

I've enjoyed watching him. Emmanuel is really good as well.

I ain’t starting a new thread for a different player and the theme is the same so here’ll do.

Chris O’Grady surpasses all expectations.

Respect your views but I thought he was rank today

Yep, he should have gone off before Dodoo.

Dodoo was the only one of our front 6 with any pace.

We were painfully slow with our build up until Verlinden came on.

D  Murphy was shite but then he did his job at the end.

BTW, water, coz I’m still hanging from Friday night. 🤮

He was nowhere near being our worst at Rotherham either.

That would have been Emmanuel!  Even when I saw him doing warm ups with Julian Darby I was thinking "he isnt a footballer", he looked so unfit and not exactly comfortable on the ball.  Had a 'mare and was replaced at right back by a midfielder (Lowe).  Since then he's improved 100%, a very different player to Chicksen because he's more hit and miss, but he's a proper defender and has a bit of Little's about him going forward, real strength and determination.  As others have said, its strange to be happy with both full backs, has to be a first in recent years. With Bunney and Brockbank as back up and none of the 4 likely to be going anywhere soon, we should be sorted in that position for next season.

Agree with that, but as others said he didnt have a good game yesterday (neither did Dodoo and Politic and we know they've got more in their lockers too).  Keeps it simple and has a good touch, the ball's under control instantly.  Just seems to know where to be and we've seen enough to know he'll be a source of goals.  Another one with the right attitude we can assume will be around next season whatever the division.

Hill was clever at Rotherham IMO. He could easily have hauled Emmanuel off, but brought Lowe in to help him and guide him through the game.

Emmanuel must have lost at least a stone, if not 2 since then and now looks fit, sharp and strong.

People forget that we signed a group of unfit, unwanted players.
