He was the same ability of player when he was younger so he wouldn't have been a great signing then either.

Tomski had a point in that in isolation some stories might be entertaining but a poor player who doesn't get picked and then acts as though he was frozen out rings alarm bells for giving an unbiased account of proceedings. Add in to that he emphasizes players being released who we obviously couldnt continue to pay big wages to then it becomes after dinner speaker territory rather than historical fact.

That said he did still score that goal...

I don't think anyone expected miracles, but when he's the only target man left, but you don't play him, and twat 60 yard high balls over Le Fondre's head, then he has a point.

But his main criticism of PP wasn't about that; just how he found him and his demeanor.

Aside from the Forest goal, and the Sheff Wed one to a lesser extent, I didnt see him do anything that warranted him being called a professional footballer.  Embarrassing at times, balled bounced off him constantly and I couldnt see anything he offered to Parky's team apart from being tall.  But he looked a different player for Rochdale against us, if we're comparing centre forwards he looked miles ahead of Murphy.  Seems like a top bloke and a pity we didnt sign him a few years earlier.

Perhaps it says a lot about the respective managers at the time and the confidence within the teams.
