A reliable source has told me the purse strings are extremely tight.

I don't know how true this is or not, but the source is reliable.

What I know for a fact is that the academy boys at most ages are training less frequently and for a shorter duration than they did 2 years ago, and less than their counterparts, and some sessions are being run by 1 coach to 30 players (should be 1-10).

So we either don't care about the academy as much as we used to, or we've had to prioritise cash, which has meant we currently can't afford to pay part-time coaches wages for a few hours a week. I suspect it's the latter.

Not having a go at the owners, I think they're doing as good as can be expected so far

Wasnt it announced a few weeks back that we were going down the Brentford route of life? This would explain less interest in an academy.

PS is Keith starting to remind anyone else of KA with his rants? I'm waiting for Sherrif Ronson to pull off his mask and reveal Sweaty Ken

Don't know why you think it will necessarily be better waiting until May? A couple of decent managers that are currently available and won't have a problem getting fixed up shortly are Paul Tisdale and Paul Hurst, no worse than Ainsworth or Coleman you just mentioned.

If we are looking for someone doing quite well currently, with a bit of promise, then they're not likely to be any more available at the end of the season than now. In fact the more chance of someone else looking at them.

Always arguments both way of course, but the fact we're currently on page 25 of this thread, its topic also being discussed on others, says a lot. The clamour is also getting louder.

I'm no Hill supporter but your argument doesnt hold up on most counts.  Its arguable whether he's improved the squad, I think he has, but its not black and white.  And if you mean improved it from having Verlinden and Bridcutt, that was taken out of his hands, how could he realistically get better than those?  Erm...embargo, etc.  Its amazing he didnt attract championship players to play for a team 15 or 20 points adrift from safety, paying £2k a week max.  Only my opinion but yes I think his January transfer dealings show promise, the likes of Nsiala, Fleming and Bryan are decent.  Hamilton up and down but easy to see what he could offer and a potential for Div 2 next season.  Have any youth players improved?  Yes - Darcy is now a nailed on first teamer, he could have easily been left in the U23s for another season.  And Politic is getting to be a guaranteed pick whether he plays well or not, which recognises that he's a special player at this level.

How has he improved the squad when like four players have signed up for next season? We are currently in no better situation from when he first started if not worse that’s all that matters, you can talk about Bridcutt & Verlinden, but what benefit for the club have them loans been to the club now? Plus he was play fucking Bridcutt as a CB. He’s completely alienated most of young players, Zouma for example criticising him week after week where’s the criticism for Nsiala fucking booted off his on face for a goal the other week. Darcy isn’t it a nailed on first team player he’s dropped him a couple of times recently. Then he signs this Faal & Ryan Delaney then says they aren’t good enough 😂 Don’t get me onto that Tottenham lad he’s signed he’s not even kicked a fucking ball yet & what we in now end of February..

“It has always been a long-term plan but there seems to be a short-term debate,” he said yesterday.

“I think that’s pretty unfair. I don’t remember any debates last season, except around Ken Anderson.

Plenty of people suggested Parky should be sacked.

Only utter nobbers

His latest about needing the fans to get behind the team... I've been surprised how well the atmosphere has held considering. Hill is in danger of becoming another Megson here.

Depends how you read it

To me, its just a keep up the good work in the stands

Much bollocks in there, imo, but on the darcy point

He is a nailed on starter

Hill loves him

I doubt many know the truth, but there are only 2 reasons hes not in the team

Hes injured

Or

He wont sign a deal

I suspect the latter, but maybe im wrong

I agree, but theres no way the decisions to do the deals are hills alone

There will be a strategy, however muddled it seems or ineffective is has been and FV will be on board with it

From what we have been told, the only real headscratcher is the hull left back

Id love that one to be explained

If hes costing nowt and is now second choice to bunney, fair enough

It also depends which window hes on about

I think first window, the quality we got in was better and he actually cobbled together a competitive team

Second was a plan for division 4 job

Which again begs the question, why sign the left back

Fleming is a good player, better than Bunney and Chicksen imo, at the moment you could still argue it’s stick or twist about relegation, I know it might be nailed on but till it’s mathematically certain I’m not giving up yet

I agree Fleming better player than chicksen not seen enough of bunney, problem with Fleming he’s a wing back and we play 2 at the back, go three and get  Fleming and The other lad playing their natural game.

I've known a few players to be guaranteed picks in a Bolton shirt down the years, didn't always follow that they were a special talent.

Agree 100%.  We can all name them, there's 1 in our team now.  But the encouraging thing with Hill picking Politic even if he has a quiet game is that he wants to use a player that offers something different, because he MIGHT produce something, and as a fan you have a bit of hope if you've got a Politic in comparison to a Buckley for eg.  And he's still getting picked despite the return of Crawford, our other creative player.  (I've probably tempted fate for today now, apologies if the team news ruins this theory).

Go on then, what bollocks am I talking about then?

Isn’t it a bit of contradiction saying “he’s a nailed on starter” then put “there are only 2 reasons he not in the team he’s injured or he won’t sign a new deal” so he’s not nailed on starter then is he. Fair enough if he’s been injured but he would be playing regardless if he signed a new deal or not if that statement was true.

Let’s see how we get on till end of the season if we get at least 5-7 points till end of season I’ll be surprised 👍🏻
