Tombwfc
On the one hand, deaths are down, testing is moving up to 25,000, Dyson is going to build 15,000 ventilators in two weeks and you'll be able to buy an antibody test from Boots next week to check yourself and get back to work. On the other, we're only testing 1,000 more than we were 9 days ago, the people who make ventilators currently reckon there's fuck all chance of any being ready in time and Chris Whitty says they don't even know whether the antibody test actually works yet. Time to switch off the news for a bit. Edited March 25, 2020 by Tombwfc

At about 2pm today a Dr from PHE told a select committeeย that an antibody test would be available in chemists for people to buy within days. Four hours later the Chief Medical Advisor effectively said that was bollocks - no-one knows if the test even works, and even if they did, in the short term it would be of less use than the standard test. I get peopleย are being asked to comment for 24 hours a day on a subject that nobody, even very qualified people, really knows about, but that's pretty appalling communication. As is the confusion over the reporting of the death rate. Edited March 26, 2020 by Tombwfc
Jol_BWFC
So it was NHS England that confirmed the 28 deaths. Letโs hope that when Public Health England announce their figures, they arenโt much different to the NHS ones.

London Wanderer
Thought this was an interesting read over a cuppa this morning. So I'll leave it out there-ย https://www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2020/03/its-not-socialism-its-another-mega-wealth-transfer/?fbclid=IwAR06hO6Ps41_q7ZsnOk91K4YY2q7BdLPhdDZAiKwk5-6XAZNfUUIoy_Tr2s He praises Rishi Sunak's policies since this crisis started- obviously urgently need more accessible support for self employed- but hopefully that will come today. But the biggest issue could be how the usual few will profit from this while workers & the tax payer will take the slack in coming years. Personally, I don't see them getting away with pushing more austerity on public services. Especially after many will be seen as heroes after this blows over. But I wouldn't be surprised if they tried. I'm a glass half full of optimism and topped up with pessimism as the moment.

Boris' whole thing has been about investment and breaking the shackles of austerity. I'd say he's dead in the water if he reverts to a policy of austerity that will disadvantage the voters who put him there. But we will see. I think this will completely change so much that we can predict and so much we cannot that the world in 3 years time could be a completely different place.ย Between this and the climate crisis I think the old economic models are defunct and will be ripped up you cannot base the world's success on a growth model anymore given growth is fundamentally at odds with the major issues we have to deal with.ย ย ย
