This is lifted direct from the office of national statistics.

  • The provisional number of deaths registered in England and Wales in the week ending 20 March 2020 (week 12) was 10,645; this represents a decrease of 374 deaths registered compared with the previous week (week 11).

  • The average number of deaths for the corresponding week over the previous five years was 10,573; this means that the overall number of deaths in week 12 of 2020 was slightly higher than previous years.

  • Of the deaths registered in week 12, 103 mentioned novel coronavirus (COVID-19), which is 1.0% of all deaths.

  • This is lower than the figures reported by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) as it takes time for deaths to be reported.

As you say it may be higher in the depths of winter but an extra 10k between Jan and March seems a bit of a stretch. It doesn't include Jockland though so with the drugs and fried food they could make up the numbers.

Zye, sorry you are right

Nearer 10k per week

I was working on a population of 70 million and us living to 70

Rough numbers, obvs

Potential time bomb if its only 500k a year, but thats another story

My mums fella works for a print company that do 80% of their work for nhs. As you can imagine they are busy

they’ve just done a run of 10k Patient record booklets that are being delivered to nightingale hospital in London tomorrow. Further 15k to be delivered next week. 20k to Birmingham within 10 days too

that should paint a very clear picture of what’s expected in the coming weeks

he’s also been “told” that if you end up in one of these it isn’t expected you have a high chance of coming out again

that’s grim let’s hope they are massively overestimating this

It's called a face fit test and is a legal requirement for anybody who wears a close or tight fitting face mask.

You need to ensure that the air you breathe in while wearing the mask come via the filtered bit and doesn't leak in from elsewhere

Upside is theyre not compatible with beards

Only just got chance to go for the daily walk and it's really quite heart warming seeing all the houses where kids have drawn rainbows and stuck them in the windows, they'll remember this time forever.

Side note, it's so clear in the sky that we saw the International Space Station go over and Mars is standing out tonight, in the words of Dave Higson "shining like... Like a light".

Could also be a good thing, they have the vulnerable patients records at hand, but hopefully the vulnerable will have been proper self-isolating....hopefully

A lot of unknowns pal at present. Like you say we have to live in hope and do as best we can to come out the other side

Anyroad

my daughter is currently bawling her eyes out because she’s just realised she might not see her friends for weeks and weeks. Inconsolable.

what doesn’t help is her big brother upstairs on his Xbox chatting and laughing with all his mates.

Its starting to pinch now.

I wouldn’t use houseparty, rumours it’s not safe?

why not use zoom, set her and her friends up with a party meal, they can wear fancy dress or summat, they can all see each other and talk to each other.

Noticed your tweet about sky asking terry Waite for tips on isolation.

The makings of a fabulous joke I thought, saddened to see it’s actually true!

Had a text from someone working at the hospital

She works in the eye dept normally but is being drafted into the main wards.

Kent is right, it’s starting to really boot off up there.

Can only wish those working there all the best, sounds like grim times ahead.

I thought it was a joke too at first when I saw his name trending 😆 they're really running out of stuff to report on, BBC had a submarine commander on earlier giving tips on isolation! A bit of gay before bed, I believe he suggested.

What’s it like at the hospital Kent?

Still a wall of silence on the news, which I do find strange.

17 patients at Bolton today with corona virus today (as at 13.00hrs)

We are very low in the scheme of things currently.

The missus said they are all running though the scenarios, like a major incident where you literally decide between life and death.  So those who you would normally help would have to be left to give those with a better chance whatever you can do given the circumstances.

Now that is a grim situation for a nurse or doctor in a major incident, imagine the toll on them if it goes on day after day?

It's the pay structure for the vast bulk of NHS staff it does not include Doctors. It is publically available on the NHS employers website.

Whilst it is factually true to say that the NHS budget has increased on an annual basis, these increases have not kept pace with increasing activity driven principally by an ageing population living longer with multiple comorbidities.

a simple way of summarising is that the higher bands got paid more. The lower bands got dropped a banding. The admin staff in particular got fucked over.

It's simple but it's not correct.

Percentage uplift for lower bands has actually been higher in recent years (and rightly so) to maintain differentiation as the minimum wage has increased.

I'm assuming that you may be coming from a position of personal experience, though that's likely to be anecdote and not evidence.

To be honest mate,if you are going to post something like that, post a link to it, stuff like that is a typical example of social media making the situation worse.

Actual fact where people’s jobs were reassessed and they were down banded but still doing the same stuff.
