testing stops deaths because you identify infected at an earlier stage who then isolate earlier and therfore pass it on to less people

But we aren’t passing it on really now due to the measures in place. We should have tested if it had been Possible on a mass scale weeks ago. But testing now to my uneducated mind isn’t going to stop thousands of deaths now

What they SHOULD have done, is close all the borders and had people quarantine for 2 weeks.

Imagine the kicking off had that been done.

I'm firmly in the camp that there is no right answer.

As is the case with most things pal.

For me as long as we as a country government and as individuals learn from this then that’s the best we can hope for now.

I'm coming at it from the availability of enough people to be going round chasing up tens of thousands of potentially infected people.

If would take yonks.

If feasible, yes it would help, though if people properly isolate and stick to distancing rules, those infected shouldn't be getting to too many others.

get the mobile companies/govmt to send a text message to anyone who was logged onto the same mast at the same time as someone who's tested positive   - if the person receiving the text knows that they were out and about at the same time - e.g in work, school etc, then you stay in for 14 days - mobile companies/govmt have the ability to bulk send messages and use big data software to do this, doesn't have to be a person ringing everyone up

Absolutely.

The behavioural chaps adding to the battle were important for this reason.

We are fucked.

Fake news London doesn’t have a problem apparently didn’t you know?? Choc ices and family bags of revels sales are the exception

I’m really not that arsed about the politics here.

lots of people are dying, many of whom would not have but for this virus. (There are a decent number who would probably have died in the normal course I think).

The bottom line is that it looks like my optimism looks very misplaced and the next couple of weeks are going to be a macabre, daily body count that doesn’t improve.

Just stay the fuck at home.

When you start being sensible to start to panic. Stop it.

Start talking about your porn fetishes or what you’re drinking tonight.

Not now, we've started too late.

I agree with you

I just don’t sit there trying to dissect the reasoning that’s being given for that and trying to find fault. Different strokes and all that I guess

That would imply he’s stopped drinking at anytime apart from sleep?? And as he so eloquently puts it “giving the wife a punch up the whiskers”

That is absolutely true. The hard part is getting the selfish fuckers who don't care to abide by the rules. I went down the Supermarket in my lunch break today. In general the Germans are practising social distancing. there is no mad panic to buy stuff, everything is available. This small Supermarket only allows 10 people in at a time. You HAVE to use one of their Trollies, which is disinfected after every use by the Security guy. there are only ten trollies, so you will never have more than that number in the place. the bigger Supermarkets here are running a similar system. It works. The only people who don't seem to get it are the Grey Army who have no understanding of keeping their distance, and quite happily chinwag to each other within touching distance.

Fair enough, see your point.

Would be a lot of people shut away!

You don't learn from mistakes if you don't look for faults.

As I said, there'll be the mother of all public enquiries after this,

I said in another post as long as we learn from this.

what I’m not comfortable with is trying to hold an inquest before we’ve actually seen what happens. It’s like reviewing a film after the opening titles in reality and slagging the directors Actors and production team before we’ve even seen the thing.

but like I said some folk will try and find fault in this no matter what and that’s been the way for a long time now. Hopefully society resets and this trait is eradicated where possible

There's asymptomatic people going to school, work and the shops today, potentially passing it on to the uninfected who then go home, granted the spread will be slowing beacuse of the measures, hopefully a lot. They've still been getting 100 cases a day in S korea, for the last 3 weeks.

if they could test everyone in the world today, and all the positive immediately isolated correctly,  it would be gone in a month.

I know that's not feasible, just an extreme example of why testing works.

And we need to a) extend this lockdown to any non essential workers and b) extend it for a LONG time. This is a battle of months possibly even longer than that. Not a few weeks.

The rising death rate means its a reality now. This is our reality for the forseeable. Its miserable but we have to protect life.

I will criticise where its applicable, but you can't blame the government for not tracing like South Korea. Firstly they already had the technology for mobile phone tracing in place from previous epidemics. Secondly they had the laws in place.

We are trying to develop an app but its much harder because you cannot leave the house in SK if you're not using the app and tracking your movement and contacts. They had that in place - we did not.

The lack of foresight in not buying test kits and materials however...that's just poor.

An interesting point here: employers, schools all need to carry out risk assessments.

Much of that means distancing in whatever setting your in, and if it's not possible, then don't do it.

Doctor's surgery has removed all but six seats in the waiting room to allow them to be sufficiently far apart.

Unfortunately not all are taking such measures; you're right with the mega testing idea, just not going to happen.

A question I asked previously; does this virus die out in a theoretical situation whereby everyone isolates for a suitable time period so that they've all had it and got better, died or remained virus free?

Or can it lie low in somehow and then kick off again.

I get that. But we cannot test everyone in the world today or even a large enough percentage of them. And in reality when testing is ramped up here it isn’t going to be kids and it’s going to take a long long time before we reach sufficient levels to make a difference.  IMO

my missus is on furlough, but is being told to do bits from home.

should she:

a) post dogshit to her employer?

b) post her own shit to her employer?

c) not involve the post office and just be thankful?

She's not entitled to furlough pay if she does anything related to her work at home
