A Police commissioner was on Five Live yesterday saying that officers are being challenged by people saying 'Cummings did it so why can't I ?' and similar. It has made their job even harder. Plenty before Cummings too. Just merely proves that there are a lot of people chucking stones who perhaps shouldn't be. I'd hazard a guess that there's not a single person on here who hasn't shaved the corner of a rule here or there, but used common sense. Perhaps with the exception of the odd high risk isolating poster. Cummings pushed it way beyond the limits, but in reality it's not the police's job to be doing enforcement; it's the public's job to ensure they don't have to. And therefore fuck lockdown off. Whole thing is a shambles. SAGE advisors coming out saying that we still have too many cases to start easing lockdown, COVID alert scale has gone in the bin, the app doesn't work and the tracing system won't be fully up and running (let alone worldbeating) until the end of June. But they set a target and being seen to admit anything isn't going to plan < the virus, so we're doing it anyway. It is what it is. Starting to think this might not be a 7/10 effort after all. I think they’ve got a lot right, but seem to have been derailed by the Cummings nonsense and want to create positive news - but at what cost? Im still just about in the camp that says this is a fucking horrid virus and a nightmare to deal with for countries with populations over 10 million. Even South Korea are seeing spikes again I’ll look like I’m harping on, but the Cummings fiasco has really undone some good work. The population is walking a knife edge right now, it doesn’t take much to push people off.
