Not easy for anyone all this home learning malarkey. Half our staff have got younguns at home so they've got to somehow juggle sending enough engaging work out for 30 kids of differing abilities - whilst also looking after their own full-time.

We've been doing teaching videos - setting daily activities and just started doing some video calls recently. The teaching videos take fucking ages to do and upload. Kids upload pictures of their work to an online platform and we leave comments and feedback which they've enjoyed.

Feedback has mainly been positive but some parents are always asking for more and some feel overwhelmed. I had a parent ask me for more and less work in the same day yesterday.

Anyways - reality it is it ain't home learning - it's a global pandemic. just lucky to still have a job. Roll on the summer holidays  🍺

The South and the West of the US are seeing infection rates increasing:

I'm worried that the NW is going to go the same way.

Me and the mrs are on furlough and at the moment it’s a full time job with three plus the Kent Test.

We have our timetables for each of them, mrs does the morning (Maths) after PE and then I do the afternoon (English) for the two in primary then share the humanities/Science (Me this week) art (mrs this week as it’s Miro) and the weekly projects.

Really enjoying it but it is full time and you have to work at your end to make everything work for the kids - the worksheets can only do so much. For example learning the countries of various continents tool making up our own songs, getting kitchen instruments and then writing them down - they were falling asleep just writing out lists.

Edit: and just found one of today’s times table hunt under the litter tray...hmm....

Fair play to you mate. Sounds like you're smashing it. I wouldn't dream of sending home a list the countries worksheet right now but sounds like you made it fun.

If anything this has been a good opportunity for lots of parents to find out more about how their kids learn. Can't be a bad thing but I think we're all ready for a bit of normality now. I'm used to switching off in the evenings but found that harder with not having a place of work to go into. Can see it leading to more arguments for a 4 day week if it would work for the economy as well.

Good luck with the Science 👍

Now then, I've actually no issue with govt u turns

But they're every other day

Don't they think anything through, ffs

Fwiw, I don't see why kids should get free meals during the summer hols, but maybe there's good reasons

The government gave vouchers over the Easter break which they don't normally do. Makes sense at this time I suppose when things are so abnormal.

Beyond that, I agree, they shouldn't provide meals during holidays in normal circumstances.

I wonder if local governments will still get the additional £63m already promised, or whether it goes towards paying for the new fund.

Cheers - my Dad is a retired science teacher so I can get help!

Seemed an odd thing for the government to dig in on, only to change their mind a day later.

Of all the money being thrown around, hard to see the downside of making sure kids are fed.

And I see it's annoyed the Conservative Woman, so it must be a good thing.

Did you say a new Royal Yacht?

Wowsers, great news 😁👍

Imagine all those jobs created/kept by such an investment... :)

like you, the first I've heard. Had a look, seems Digby Jones made the comment, but nothing has moved since initial designs.

Can't see any real need, nor any likelihood to be honest.

Would be a real boost for the country though eh. Something for everyone to get behind and look forward to

hopefully they could allow people at the opening ceremony if covid is still about.

could be just the tonic we need
