As well as the 3 Fisher Brothers who died at Gallipoli, i had an uncle on my dad's side who served in the same regiment and died in the same battle. Plus one on mum's side who died building The Bridge on the River Kwai, he's buried in Kanchaburi.

I didn't say you did, BD said Sturgeon hated England. She might, I just wondered what specifically she'd said to bring this on. Criticising Boris or the Tories isn't anti-English. Cancelling your holiday because one political party said something negative about another political party must rank fairly high on the snowflake scale though. She's a strange one; putting her obvious trait aside, I see her as being quite good at doing what she does. On this subject, she chose to take her nation on a slightly different path, apparently with reasonable grounds, which is all fair enough. But it leaves me scratching my head when she moans about a lack of a 4 nation approach, and not getting information quickly enough. Surely, once the information is gathered, and an action is decided by the UK government, it's then a choice for the other devolved ones whether to follow the same actions, or take their own. Don't get the need for the continual bleating; she's got the devolved powers, and is using them. But then again, perhaps I do understand the continual bleating. On a slightly separate note, we popped round and asked the mil if she could rattle up some masks (she's a fine seamstress) as we're going to need some for our visit. She asked what fabric we'd like them in, and my lad said have you got some England flag fabric!

I found that place heart breaking. The heat was oppressive walking around the gravestones, what it must have felt like to be worked to death, riddled with Beri Beri in that heat I couldnt imagine. Nearly all of them in the early 20s too

My Grandpa was a POW on the railroad, his diary makes for a hard read. The sad thing about the forgotten army is that from a strategic point of view it was a hugely pointless waste of life. He gave away all us medals, wouldn't wear them. I would recommend anyone to read The Narrow Road to the Deep North. None of my family has managed to go there, I hope one of us manages to one day.
