Is she still on the mend, or is her situation going to be very long term?

She's out and back in work, under a very tight risk assessment. She's wearing a face shield as an alternative, although I'm not keen on them as they're not as effective.

We don't know about how it's hit her long term, 2 mile family walk takes it all out of her :(

But ya'know... it's just a cold... ::shakes head::

According to the latest sero positive tests the NW is at a maximum 16% positivity, probably lower - you need at least 60%-70%  to get to herd immunity.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/national-covid-19-surveillance-reports/sero-surveillance-of-covid-19

So, if you beleive this data, which the government do,  we need another 44% - 54% to catch it in the NW.

Population of the NW is 7.3 million

44% of this is 3.2 million, 55% is 4 million

up to 20% of the daily infection rate needed hospitalisation at any one time in the spring ( in spring in UK, 20k was the most we had in covid beds in 1 day, and 100k is estimated as the actual highest new infections per day (not recorded cases, which was much lower)

20% of 3.2 million is 640K

even if you think this is a massive over estimate, say even 10 fold, you'd still need 64K in hospital

We've got about 5K covid beds in the NW, if you throw in Nightingale, a small % are ventilator beds.

Some patients stay in for weeks

Where's everyone going to go if we get a big rush at the same time?

I'm not saying this is correct - but it's what the govmt are using as a guide, and why they're imposing restrictions.

I know you're not, but when they see the impact of their stay, the nurses and the non existence of other important services because of the virus, surely they and others will realise that such an increase is indicative of where we might be heading.

I'm sure kent will have stories of burned out staff etc, the last thing we need is to risk putting them through shit again.

Get the numbers down.

This shield the vulnerable and crack on route.

I think (some) people say this with the image that the vulnerable in the are all old, decrepit , none working people who can be shut away .
fact is loads of people vulnerable to serious issues if they catch this are young, working and otherwise fit , the aspect of their life that renders them vulnerable to Covid doesn’t otherwise have much negative effect , plus there’s people who don’t know they’re vulnerable to it too, so measures  stopping the spread is vital , not possible to lock away the vulnerable and rest carry on, has to be society wide .
In essence , we should protect the vulnerable by doing what we are asked in terms of wearing masks and social distancing

Wish her well then, I would imagine 2 miles is much further than she could manage earlier, so hopefully a steady, if slow improvement.

I've also just seen our rate has dropped to 189 from over 200. Pubs open next week?

I’ve mentioned before that I had Covid in April and still have breathing difficulties and tiredness even now, but I still wear a mask in every shop. Some people are like sheep, if they see someone not wearing one they won’t.

Mogg would be funny if he wasn’t doing his creepy Dickensian pantomime act on the taxpayers pennies.

He needs to fuck off and live his fantasy out using his hedge fund money far from the public gaze, not striding around the corridors of power with a hard on and sneering at the normals.

They were expecting an increase, just not so big, yet.

The whole world is struggling with this.

Nothing that the government do will ever be devoid of criticism from many, and that isn’t unique to this country.

Problem is now you’ve got those who always criticise the government doing so plus an increasing number of people who voted this lot in. Don’t get me wrong it’s a tough job and there will always be issues, but you can’t seriously believe that Boris and his cronies are doing as good a job as any? U-turn after u-turn, out of touch doesn’t even cut it.

I like Mr Mogg, funny as fuck and even better for winding up you bunch of nob-scratches 😁

That sort of thinking only gets you so far. Eventually, you'll realise he's not got your best interests at heart, and he views you in exactly the same light as the people you think he's winding up.
