I do.

It stems from a marital dispute a few years ago when I left a chunk of Shropshire Blue behind some jars at the back of the fridge for a few weeks longer than I should have. By the time I realised it was there it could only be identified by a trained botanist.

After that, I was allowed a cheese only section.

I love cheese, me.

I've got two teenage sons who like to graze on cheese directly from the fridge, usually after midnight, on their way to the downstairs bog in the middle of the night. Thererfore the shit cheese is left plainly in view, with ease of access a priority, in the middle see through drawer attached to the inside of the fridge door.

The good cheese is hidden behind the pickled onion jar at the top of the back shelf, but the mrs complains if it's a smelly one, so it has to be well wrapped to prevent nagging.

Distinct whiff of gammon.

If it was a 'simple' recession, I think I'd be much more sympathetic to this view. But this is unprecedented. This isn't people losing jobs just because a downturn in a certain sector or that the job isn't viable anymore. This is through absolutely no fault of their own that they have been told they can't work. If it wasn't for covid they'd be in work and earning tomorrow. They couldn't plan, there was no warning. One day in work, next on furlough, then 30 days later, redundant. If you have built a life around a certain wage structure it's not good enough to say well go and just do something else and expect to be able to turn it around in four weeks and pay the mortagage, rent loans whatever. We did what we were told - by the tories - got on our bikes, went to places I didn't really want to be for work and to grow my career. This when I were a lad nonsense totally misreads the situation people are finding themselves in. Whole sectors, gone within six months.

Someone will be along presently to quote Marx and say a war (albeit against a microbe) is perfect to stimulate a weary economy.

Suck it up and get down the food bank etc...

Whilst I'm not blaming the tories, I do feel for people whose sectors have been utterly decimated by Covid. This is literally no-one's fault (I don't buy into any theory that says this was done on purpose. Just nature being nature for me.)

We are obliged as a nation to help each other out. That's Blitz spirit. Not just patting yourself on the back for being fortunate enough to be retired or work in an industry that managed to swerve the bullet.

More horse dump.

Not every job can be saved, whether they'd like to or not.

Offering more self righteous, patronising comments doesnt make you right.

Absolutely no need to be angry whatsoever.

I've been called worse by better people than you. If you mean by patronising, you don't like where someone points out a flaw in your worldview, then yes I'm talking down to you, and wafting a fragrantly be-gloved hand in your direction to dismiss you. You may be gone if my comments displease you but please trying a move beyond the vulgarities of horse defecation to make your point. It may prove to be more effective, otherwise we'll all be in the gutter with such vile reposts as;

This isn't a simple recession you John Bull cockgobbler, and getting on your high wooden union jack painted rocking horse, ignoring the actual facts makes you sound like a bellowing buffoon.

Its not about just saving jobs ,its about preparing for redundancies whole sectors have been warning about for months, whilst your hero-worshiped overlords did less than fuck all and gave everyone a few cheap meals whilst kicking the redundancy can as far down the road as they thought they could and lying about how far head of the game they were with their ability to contain this problem. So don't in turn patronise me and tell me when I should or should not be fucking angry you wankstain on a cheap duvet, if you want self righteous, self-belief I'd look closer to home.

As it is, and being the better man, I'll just say lets agree to disagree and part as friends.

Halleluiah! Have a plus 10. By pulling together and acknowledging some folk have had the shitty end of the stick is the only way we'll get through this. I'm hoping it might soothe some of the wounds that Brexit sowed.

We have a special cheese section in our fridge - nothing but cheese is allowed in it. The other week I pulled out a lump of what I think used to be Feta, fucking hell, it stunk worse then Big E's belly button.

Did it taste better?

Folk need to stop listening to the opinions of people who just happen to present a radio show, you may as well post screenshots of Whatsapp messages from Dave from the pub. They are no more or less qualified or valid.

Just sharing viewpoints my friend.

Dave from the pub thinks its down the russians btw :D

She's talking out of her hoop anyway - Pillar 1 tests include hospitalised with symptoms, Pillar 2 includes the ones you book yourself, where you're told multiple times that you have to have a least 1 of the 3 main symptoms to get a test, Pillar 3 is the antibody test, and Pillar 4 is surveilance including some serology.

What does she think we should do instead? - only test people once they're in hospital - bit late then,

Stop testing NHS workers without symptoms and let them walk around wards potentially infecting people unknowingly?

Theres going to be false positives, always will be.

what does a non diagnostic machine mean?

She's saying that to be properly diagnosed with covid, you should have a medics opinion based on analysis of your history and symptoms, plus a positive test to be counted as a confirmed case, which in an ideal world would be better - however, we aint got anywhere near enough doctors, or the time to do this, and loads of folk are asymptomatic anyway, so how the hell are we supposed to find the asymptomatic folk in high risk jobs,  without testing?

The point, which she's totally missing, is that there's several inidcators showing that the infections are on the rise.

If there was no rise in hospitalisations, if the virus suddeny mutated to become weaker, if there was a believable study that proved massive amounts of the population alreay had immunity, if we developed treatment that massivey reduced the severity - they'd stop the restrictions ASAP.

Why would you show a positive result if you didn’t have it?

Genuine question as I know fuck all about the process. I assumed a positive test meant you had Covid-19, rather than a pretend version that gets tinfoil hatters all excited.

You'd still be harbouring the virus, which the method looks for.

I don't know what the difference is between a confirmed case and a positive test result

so I googled it

https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/covid-19/surveillance/case-definition

now i might be wrong, but based on the below, a positive test result IS a confirmed case? just so I know, before I tweet that Hartley-Brewer back

Clinical criteria
Any person with at least one of the following symptoms [1]:

cough
fever
shortness of breath
sudden onset of anosmia, ageusia or dysgeusia

Diagnostic imaging criteria
Radiological evidence showing lesions compatible with COVID-19

Laboratory criteria
Detection of SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid in a clinical specimen [2]

Epidemiological criteria
At least one of the following two epidemiological links:

close contact [3] with a confirmed COVID-19 case in the 14 days prior to onset of symptoms
having been a resident or a staff member, in the 14 days prior to onset of symptoms, in a residential institution for vulnerable people where ongoing COVID-19 transmission has been confirmed

Case classification

Possible case:
Any person meeting the clinical criteria

Probable case:
Any person meeting the clinical criteria with an epidemiological link
OR
Any person meeting the diagnostic criteria

Confirmed case:
Any person meeting the laboratory criteria

There's always false positives. The tests have a degree of error

The less % of people that test positive, the higher the % of false positives..

Say for example 1% of tests provide a false positive, and you test 1000 people , none of whom actually have it - you'd get 10 false positives - so basically all of your positives would be incorrect.

conversley if you test 1000 people and 500 of them had it you'd get 500 positives plus 5 false positives - so this time your false positives would be a low %
