Ani
Before we go all zombie apocalypse here let's remember the virus potentially becomes immune to specific vaccines but the vaccines work in different ways so it might we have to use more of a different one until the original is tweaked to make it effective again. Look how low infections and deaths got last summer with no vaccine, less understanding of the virus and rules being relaxed. Some things like wearing masks in certain places might carry on for a while, working from home becomes more normal etc etc but the virus will be defeated. But we can not keep pretending it has gone and letting it grow back

Which means having had it in March I'm still immune as I had no noticable symptoms. So if the body fights it off with natural antibodies, then surely a vaccine induced antibody will do the same? I think we are potentially seeing some lasting damage to the travel industry, unless a more formal quarantine system can be established for those returning. However that still has knock on effects and costs.

However that still has knock on effects and costs. In reality people can't carry on quarantining when they return from foreign climes. People go away for 2 weeks from work, they can't then quarantine/isolate for another week or ten days upon return, that could mean some people taking nearly a month off work and using all their holidays in one go. I'm wondering if anybody will be travelling abroad for a holiday during 2021, I can't see it this side of June/July anyway, I hope I'm wrong, as I'm itching to have have a decent holiday
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted January 25, 2021 Site Supporter Share Posted January 25, 2021 Yep, that's the rub if folk want to travel. Presumably, those clever bods will be looking at the SA variant (and others) with a view to checking the efficacy of current vaccines and looking at modifications as necessary. Then other nations have got to get vaccinating.

Madness that they’re closed at all but the pressure for numerous other outdoor activities to be allowed would come. Wouldn’t do much good in the drive to get away from the elitist image. I personally can’t wait and am desperate to play.
fatty
Selfish post. I’m really miserable with it all today. More and more snippets being dropped in that the easing won’t be happening for months. I’m normally quite positive but need constant little targets to keep me going and there’s nothing to look forward to and my energy is slowly getting sapped. Sounds like my Monday’s are Casino’s Sunday afternoons. I know it’s difficult but if the government gave us some defined targets we could have something to focus and hang on to but each week is blending into the next with nothing to keep us going. They certainly aren’t good motivators. Get the R rate to x and carry out y number of vaccinations and we to Tier whatever - just something !!! But I suppose I’m a lucky one so should be grateful I’m on the hamster wheel.
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted January 25, 2021 Site Supporter Share Posted January 25, 2021 No one is going to commit to times with infection rates so high. Ultimately, its down to all of us to do the right thing and then get vaccinated when we're called. Another 3 weeks until their mid Feb vaccination target: could be some good news if the rates are all dropping and numbers vaccinated still rising.
