wiggy
I know I'm a simpleton but I'm curious about why we can't massively increase production. With the entire world needing vaccines there's going to be decent demand for a while yet

Lt. Aldo Raine
The Novavax vaccine proves 89% effective. We've apparently ordered 60m doses.
Lt. Aldo Raine
I have to be honest, I hadn't even heard of the Novavax one. The even better news is that it's also proven to kick the fuck out of the UK variant.

Site Supporter Winchester White Posted January 28, 2021 Site Supporter Share Posted January 28, 2021 Another vaccine supplier coming on board is great news. By fuck we need it. The whole AZ vs EU thing seems like a lot hot air, bet you a penny to a pound it all fizzles away as tabloid sensationalism.

Making sure we get the production right is more important than getting volume out with a risk it won't be right. Both Pfizer and AZ are making process changes to increase volumes. Once they are implemented I think we see another step change. We are doing really well so far

Lets use temperature as an example, in a small plant say its as 0.1 degree maybe now issue, but say you make a plant 10 time the size that temp could be 1 degree or even more and therefore could effect the process, I don't know I'm just having a guess Ive worked on test rigs for stuff before and they work well, but when scaled up to a large production the wheels have fallen off

Countries don't even define a case of covid in the same way. Many countries aren't capable of undertaking an accurate excess deaths assessment- I posted a link a few days ago explaining it. Simple, because our number of deaths over and above the average are also amongst the highest in the world. And that has nothing to do with how a COVID case is defined. https://www.ft.com/content/a2901ce8-5eb7-4633-b89c-cbdf5b386938 Which of those countries, particularly the European ones, do you not think are capable of calculating excess deaths? Re read and do some more research. No point classifying anything as being best or worst in the world, if much of the world can't provide numbers. Moreover, now new variants are playing havoc, comparisons become much weaker still. Then there's the fact you only look at a headline figure. Meaningless if your trying to study the virus and its interaction with societies, useful if folk just want to have a pop.

Excess deaths is a measure of the impact within a country. Beyond that the impact of the virus the world over. However, without subsequent investigation and rigorous scientific study, they will mean nothing other than what we already know that the virus is a twat. What is clear now, is that vaccinating the world, as quickly as possible is vital to reduce opportunity for more variants, and to get back to what we previously had. Or perhaps more pertinently, what we need to have in the future.
