THIS

100,000 sounds bad

but out of 67 million  its fuck all

The Reebok filled 4 times over. Wouldn't have said that's fuck all. And it's 100,000 dead. Plenty of people who have had it and whose health has been massively impacted despite not dying.

Not far off a year since my sister had it and she still can't run a few hundred metres without ending up in bed for a few days. And she was an extremely fit and healthy, marathon running 40 year old.

Can't believe we're going over this again, but if you're saying we shouldn't have locked down because only 100,000 have died then it's only because we have locked down that the number isn't way more. We've had 1,000 people dying every day for weeks during lockdown.

Imagine what that number would have been if we'd cracked on... Although I'm guessing some people would say 500,000 dead old people would be no great loss.

A 48 year old bloke with fuck all wrong with him previously, fit enough, looked after himself - suffocated to death 2 days ago from Covid.

Mate of a work colleague who is absolutely devastated.

I suppose maybe it’s all like final destination and he may have been sliced in half by a stray piece of metal so let’s crack on like normal.

98% of people who are tested, dont have it.

Country is on its arse, mainly due to media scaremongering and bellends.

It is possible that some are getting tested when they've not got any real symptoms, however the testing numbers now include lft, to help identifying asymptomatic folk.

This puts numbers up, but without the same time/costs as pcr testing.

That said, as capacity is now so big, it does no harm to 'over test' for want of a better description, as opposed to not be able to do them.

My step daughters b/f works on site with a lad who tested positive. Last saw him on Thursday last week. Her B/f went for a test today. No real questions just turn up.
When the step daughter went for a test over Xmas had to justify her going   There has been a change in attitude to allow more tests and surely that is a good thing.

If he is positive that is us locked down for a few days as he has been living here since it started.
Got to say I am struggling with being stuck in with same people for so long now.
Even considering getting a job !!!

Another lateral flow test complete, I only pop into the office once a week, so I book an 8.30am test at the First Aid room for every Wednesday from last week, both negative, although the nurse did say to me if you do test positive, it maybe wrong, so you would have to go to a test centre and take another test.

Next week is half-term and I was going in extra days to help out with distributing student resources, that's now been cancelled due to the outbreak of the SA variant in the Moss Side,  Hulme and surrounding area, the whole area is now going down the mass testing route, that can only be a good thing going forward.

As for the government saying there maybe no holidays this year, surely with all the testing we have in place, Vaccines cracking on to about 360k a day, if not more, that within 3 months and warmer weather on the horizon it's to soon to make that decision. Best thing would be to keep their mouths shut and stop giving people hope then taking it away.

The concern is not about the predominant strain currently here, but importing new ones which may be more resistant to current vaccines.

Getting our numbers right down at least allows more of our economy to get moving.

At the same time some breathing space for development of modified vaccines to help tackle emergent variants.

Government now talking about no holidays this year, potential 10 year prison sentence for lying about where you’ve been on holiday,   this is getting beyond surreal, soon as the flights reopen I’m out and not coming back for a long time.

Surely the path ahead to take is the one that's least likely to bring us back here. And to me that obviously involves limiting foreign travel.

With cases dropping, we're nearing the time where people get amnesia again and completely forget everything that's happened to this point (well, there's no possible way there could be a THIRD wave...).

Having said that, if the current thinking is that the new variants mean the vaccines stop death, but not neccesarily hospitalisations... then expanding hospital capacity (with staff) should be the next big national effort.

Said it the other day, it’s ok all us Brits being vaccinated but the rest of the world aren’t just going to let us wander wherever we like until they’ve got concrete proof that it won’t spread.

Maybe

But will they be properly open?

And it’s looking certain that vaccine passports will be the norm.

Chaos is my prediction.
