Site Supporter only1swanny Posted March 2, 2021 Site Supporter Share Posted March 2, 2021 Hopefully by then be able to see a doctor. Loads are using it to hide away and reduce work load. I've had to launch a complaint with mine to get a phone call back from one.

They aren't, its just many industries take a long time to open up properly but they will need experienced staff when they are fully open. These people need to have a phased return rather than a cliff edge.

Hope you are right, my fear is it will lead to longer lockdowns, if it’s used to ease folk back into work and it does reduce unemployment then I’m all for it. I really don't think it will, its just the gvt can't afford an unemployment cliff edge. As I say, many industries are on their arse and opening up properly is going to take a good 12 months at the very least.

I know at least one firm that will be jumping for joy, as they're rinsing the system at the minute and have every member of staff on flexi Furlough. They're sales for 2020 were way above those form 2019, they really don't need to be claiming the money, but they are doing, and even though I'd never be able to prove it, I know that some of them are working when they're not supposed to be.........and I reckon they're probably not the only company in the UK doing this 1 hour ago, Mounts Kipper said: Hope you are right, my fear is it will lead to longer lockdowns, if it’s used to ease folk back into work and it does reduce unemployment then I’m all for it. I'm not sure it'll mean it'll lead to longer lockdowns, I do think what it means is no matter what the numbers or the "data" say, that we'll be sticking to the dates already outlined by the Government, they certainly won't be pulling anything forward now

Its a god send for me and our company. I'm.notnsure what your point is? It's better to continue this scheme. It's certainly a huge help to my family at the moment. mickbrown
What about that restaurant chain that have staff on furlough and then asked the staff to loan them 10% of their wages? Surely that's taking the piss.

For some people it's great (like yourself) and I have no issue with that. There are people taking advantage of the system though, and that's not great, hopefully they'll get found out, and the Company Directors get hit with massive fines and bans form holding any sort of Directorship again. The company I've mentioned above got grassed up by one of my customers in December, who were suspicious of what they've been doing, but we know they're still doing it - you would hope it'd get investigated at some point For me it's a tricky one, I can see that it's still needed, but the cost is eyewatering, although I'm not sure what else can be done, so it has to continue
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted March 3, 2021 Site Supporter Share Posted March 3, 2021 Was chatting to a contractor recently (small family job, which he was a director of). He said numerous companies have been taking the piss- getting grants (50k) etc when they're not entitled to it. Perhaps that's in part, why talk of corporation tax going up to help for for everything. Whatever happens, those individuals and companies ripping off the country during such difficult times need locking up.
Escobarp
There was a huge scam earlier in the pandemic whereby dormant companies and newly set up companies were claiming grants and bounce back loans and then ceasing to trade. Big investigation ongoing by HMRC etc in this respect.
