A million breast cancer screenings have been missed during lockdown.

As @boltondiver has pointed out all along, this is one of the knock on effects that could cause a lot of non-corona deaths if not dealt with swiftly.

But - lift lockdown and it's a given that hospitals will get busier and these tests back up even further.

Strict lockdown to clear the backlog?

27 towns now higher infection rates than when Bolton had pubs and restaurants shut.

Yet they continue with theirs open.

This is bollocks. Open ours or bring theirs in line.

Can't see them opening in Bolton. Bolton is higher now than it was when they shut. It'll be the other way round if anything I think.

There was talk of the govmt creating tiers of restrictions to make it easier to understand.

But with 6 of you around a single table, surely you haven’t a hope of having 2m between you? And very unlikely to be achieving the 1m needed to sit there with masks on (which you won’t do anyway if you’re supping)?

We could sit 1m apart, as the club has spaced the chairs that way, granted they do soon move in. Masks are only worn on the way to and from the table, once day down, the masks are removed. Obviously the area I live in has no special measures, as of yet, I'm sure they're coming, but for now, Me and my mates can all go out for a drink this evening and sit around the same table. And then all go our separate ways to a different pub an hour later and each sit with another five people from different households......it is ridiculous

Back when we had our sudden spike, our local public health data was telling us that the main source of new cases was the 18-40's in pubs.

Ithink the right approach is for each town to come up with its own response based on the specific needs of its population. And it looks like our population has or at least had a problem with social distancing in pubs.

For me - we'd be crackers to reopen then until our rate of transmission has been brought right back down and the pubs have been reassessed.

Just my take anyway. And I'm not a publican who's losing money of course - so only looking at it from a health angle

Theres very little risk compared to lots of other scenarios

When we are not breaking the law, ill consider the app

The app is decentralised. No info available to authorities. If you are breaking the rules, all the more reason to use the app.

If everybody wore a mask when out and about (or visors if they can't breathe), if everyone distanced properly, if everyone reduced unnecessary social interactions , if everyone got a bit fitter, if the messaging from the govmt was clearer and more consistent, if everyone downloaded the app, this virus spread wouldnt be as bad.

Its not happening, cos folk are making choices every day based on themselves.

This is something I don't understand. You say its ridiculous, presumably because you cant see how it will benefit anyone, but are happy to undertake that very activity.

No one has to go out if they're unhappy with the conditions.

Perhaps it will work in offering a balance between not shutting pubs, and keeping rates manageable. If not, more restrictions will come. People will still be complaining then.

Nice work.

It's a terrible stat. But from your comment it sounds like you're blaming the authorities for this? How about to make sure that we can carry on with the essentials like this, then people accept that cuddling up to their mates in the pub might have to wait. We have to make choices...

Keep scoring?

Fucking hell...I've heard some shit. :)

And if anybody thinks the authorities couldn't (not saying they will) get the data from Serco, they'd need to be about 3 years old

I've said a few times, im not arsed about being in a heaving, sweaty pub

I just want to have a bit of confidence these jokers have some idea

And consistency might give me a degree of that

Nice work.

My mate, the NHS planner says his NHS trust is 14 months behind already. With the lack of space they have because of covid,  It would take them 14 months to catch up to where they were in March, and that will grow the longer covid lasts.

Everything takes longer because of cleaning protocol. They have less staff because of isolating, the work created by covid, on the wards and behind the scenes, and  they have less space because of covid regulation.

If covid fucks off, or is vastly reduced, it creates more space, more staff etc.

Niece has been told not to go into school along with the rest of her year, presume that's for 10 days or 2 weeks or whatever shite it is these days.

Why do they not just let them all go in and send a 6 man squad of testers to the school, they test all the year and then send them home,  day/2 days later they all get their results and those who are clear crack on?

Too simplistic, too expensive, have I missed summat ?

Tests don't work if you've just caught it.

Others may well correct me on this but I believe the problem with this approach is that in a group already exposed to the virus, then a number of people I likely to test negative because they have had it for too little time. If they carried on mixing with the wider group they would then spread it further.

They won't have just caught it, the school will have had a report of a positive case in the bubble but not tell anyone until they go in the following day - is a day lag not enough ?

No, you'd have to isolate for a few days minimum, then get a test then wait for the result, add in a weekend delay, you'd be looking at about 7 days anyway.

I know what you're saying. In an ideal world you'd test everyone every morning, get the results back in minutes, crack on.
