If you look back at previous pandemics over the past 50 years then when you have a lot of excess deaths in one year the following years tend to be much lower

I believe they tend to look at a 5 year rolling average for the measure

Thus, if you ended up with 500k excess deaths this year then the likelihood is that the next 4 years would be significantly below average and the 5 year rolling excess deaths figure would be much lower than 500k

The average Covid death is 82, already beyond life expectancy (81)

Sure. If you kill everyone this year, next year the death rate will be 0. Doesn't stop it being the virus that is killing people now.

And the life expectancy of an 82 year old isn't 81.

Stupid cow presenting on BBC

Non essential businesses to close

While the ticker is saying what I expect it to be

Non essential shops to close

Looks like it'll be the worst of both worlds

Neither in or out

Why would you close non essential businesses if people work from home? You’re not as thick as that surely to god? In fact nah you’re not that thick.

I’d disagree with your first point, if 500k died who were In their 20’s then the annual death toll over the next 5 years would be broadly in line with the normal average. 500k deaths from the very old and vulnerable would see a sharp decrease in the average over the following years

The people who are dying from Covid are on average 82, on average they can expect to live 9 more years (the average life expectancy for the whole of the U.K. is 81, clearly it’s not for an 82 year old)

So broadly speaking, by the time we get to 1930 most of the lives saved will be dead anyway. I bet we won’t have even touched the surface of all this debt by then

By and large as a nation we're happy to doff the cap and toe the line with anything and everything thrown at us but I have a bad feeling there's a growing number of people who think this is a load of shit and sooner or later it will become unenforceable.

The police couldn't cope with even a town deciding it had had enough and even if they could the court system couldn't cope with a town deciding not to pay fines.

There are something like 6 million folk aged between 16-24 in the country and even if 5% of them said fuck off what could anyone do?

Not saying I agree with that attitude but I think there might be a real risk it takes hold.

I know teachers get a bad rep on here, but in fairness I’m not aware of any other unions / industry where they believe they shouldn’t be working (might be wrong)

Most are pushing the other way as they are petrified of their business going pop

Not sure which union represents supermarket workers but imagine if they walked out, it would be chaos
