While we might say put up with it a few more weeks cos its sensible, its not sensible for places hangimg on by their finger nails

Especially as london has just had a few weeks to top up the coffers, with worse numbers

Aye

nightmare in truth

can they make enough money under tier 2 to make it worthwhile?

Indeed, although it must be said a lot gaffs struggle to balance the books with the silly rules and curfews.

If theyre going to open, get em open properly. No curfew.

I thought theyd scrapped curfew having admitted it was just put in for shit and giggles

We're tier 3 in a Lincolnshire village.

Over the last few days grandad and grannie from North Wales are stopping over next door, a known undercover policeman has been going in and out of another neighbour's house in shooting garb, no one wears masks in a newly opened Asian owned ex-co-op and I walked past a house gathering this afternoon while dog walking.

I was beginning to wonder is it all over and nobody has told me?

Big spike coming

I said the other day, we're in T2 here, most pubs and a lot of restaurants haven't bothered to open, it's just not worth it, as you still can't mix households in said pubs/restaurants, it's a massive waste of time. So even if you go to T2, it might not make a great deal of difference

21,502 new cases & 519 new deaths in UK today

That's over 6,000 more cases & over 120 more deaths than last Sat.

The death rate will be up in the 700s in a couple of weeks I reckon, purely based on the rapid rise that London is seeing

As much as i wanna go for a pint and some food, feels a bit stupid to move us into tier 2 now just before xmas when household mixing is going to increase anyway. If it means another month of lockdown in January then id rather wait two weeks and move down post new year.

Although i’m gagging for a pint, this is the most sensible option imo.

To me, that says 1 of 2 things. Lockdown was a waste of time or they have manipulated figures to try and get people to put a lid on it over xmas. I suspect the latter

I quoted a Tweet from Sadiq Khan the other day where he said that it would be catastrophic for the hospitality business in London if they went into tier 3. We’ve been in it for weeks now, I’ve lost count.
Who’s right?

Fof the record, it’s not just about pubs and having a pint.

It’s the restaurants and cafes and hotels. It’s the suppliers to these businesses. It’s the hairdressers who’s business has dropped because people aren’t going out. It’s the taxi drivers because people aren’t going out, etc. etc.

It’s not about the pubs and a pint.

For the very first time, I’m inclined to agree.

I reckon this wave peaked 2 weeks ago. This increase doesn’t add up

Unless it didn't peak two weeks ago....and it's still yet to peak 🤔

I have a horrible feeling that Christmas is going to be followed by a large spike.

I'd not be surprised to see areas currently in T3 to stay in it next week, and areas like mine in T2 be shoved up into T3.

London will go T3, but waiting until next week is ridiculous, they should be in it now

Whether we like it or not, the country is London-centric.

London needs to be Tier 3 and if that happens, other areas won't (and shouldn't) drop down from 3 to 2.

this 5-day Xmas farce is going to see the infection (and ultimately death) rate rise so rapidly in January that they'd better make sure the Nightingales are fully ready.

One day's figures?

The overall figures (especially averages over 7 days) are positive.

That said DaisyHWanderer makes a sensible suggestion.
