leigh white
Had the unusual request today asking me not to use my mobile phone when I walked in that pub today off the bloke on the door, I said i'm not using it. He said no, it's a policy in here to ban mobile phones, tablets, and laptops to encourage folk to start conversing again to each other in this pub. Site Supporter superjohnmcginlay Posted February 12, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted February 12, 2020 It’s a thing throughout the Sam Smiths chain isn’t it, to encourage conversation.
Ghana White
Think it's been covered on here but got thrown out of one of their pubs for trying to pay by card for a proseco (barmaid said we don't do brands like proseco were sam Smith's pub and ita cash only) then being on my phone. Can go fuck themselves

A pub we went in pre-Rochdale game, also Sam Smiths, had a mobile media ban so I guess you're correct.

Is that the one round the corner from the Medicine Tap? Mate got bollocked off the barmaid for going on his mobile to check where the next pub was

leigh white
Never known that policy before it that pub, and it's cash only. Still, a decent pint of Taddy for £ 2-30 for Central Manc is good.
mickbrown
Isn't the owner of Sam Smith's a bit of an old mentalist. Sure I heard a story of how he heard a customer swearing in his newest pub, so shut the pub down the next day. DirtySanchez
Sam Smith's pub I used to go in brought in this ban a couple of years ago Bar staff said it was because people were watching sky sports etc on tablets and phones and that they didn't have a licence for it Don't know whether they would get in bother for it but the owner is completely nuts

Site Supporter White on Tyne Posted February 13, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted February 13, 2020 Went in Princess Louise in Holborn just before xmas. they had no probs my using mobile to take pics and also paid my rounds with phone app contactless so may be individual choice in Sam smiths pubs. Site Supporter FrancisFogarty Posted February 15, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted February 15, 2020 The Bridgewater (aka Stonehill) in Farnworth was done up a few years ago and they put real fires in 4 rooms. These fires had to be lit all the time the pub was open, from October to March. The owner used to call round unexpectedly and a bollocking ensued for any incendiary malfunctions. They used to call the landlord coalhand Luke. Other than that the 'no having fun' rule was rigorously applied.
DirtySanchez
Apparently landlords don't last that long as the owner allocates a set number of hours a week which they then have to give to staff Its usually not enough to cover the week so they end up working for free

darwen_white
Never had a problem with SS pubs, cheap and cheerful at £2 a pint. They have signs up about digital detox, and encourage people to talk I feel sorry for people who can't leave their phones alone.
