Isn’t everyone? Unless the ball is whipped in accurately from a wide position in a David Lee stylee.

Kevin Davies did a great job of battling the defenders ensuring they couldn't get it clear and we pressed and won 2nd balls and played from there. I still think that is the easiest way to build an effective side. Passing from the back requires enough quality to do so throughout the side. Lobbing balls at a target man who is backed up by your midfield requires strong runners and one or two players with some quality to do something with the 2nd balls. So long as you have a big lad able to make a nuisance of himself up front and then get in the box and a midfield able to cover ground you could easily then get the best out of Crawford and Dodoo and Politic instead of now expecting them (especially Crawford) to come deep, start attacks and for all your players to be comfortable in doing that.

Unfortunately though, Murphy isn't your man for that, despite being a big fucker a target man he is not. Plus he turns like a bus so if he does win a knock down, he still hasn't got into a danger area by the time we'd be looking to get the ball in the box.

Not had a player like that since Madine.

I'd agree - though I bet Big Sam would get a tune out of him in the target man role.
