A new football calendar?

Recommended Posts

Good idea to split the leagues so you get home and away games and full integrity. So you'd have League one North and South or summat. One up from each league automatically, then the 2 2nd places play off for the other promotion spot.

Not sure you could split the Premier League though? Either a 19 game league season with 10home/9 away vice versa or 2 divs of 10, each home and away so 18 games. 2 divisional winners playoff for the title.

As you can see I'm bored.

2 north to play 3 south and vice versa and then decide where to play final. If two northern teams it could go to Old Trafford and if two southern teams who gives a fuck.

If one of each then villa or similar.

Fuck this fixation with Wembley off.

Football isn't coming back any time soon.

There's no need to void/abandon leagues without a definitive resumption date. Once the FA have a date for PL & EFL to resume, then non-league should also just pick up where they left off and then a new calendar can be set out.

The PL is set to close for 2 months at the end of 2022 for the WC anyway, and many EFL games will get postponed too. It might take a while to get the program back in sync, but to void a season isn't the right way forward.

big can of worms

Correct.
The EFL hasn't got the money to contest dozens of cases from clubs denied promotion/play off chances etc

Many of the Premier League clubs are asking for the season to be ended now according to the Daily Mail

Read the article, it is distasteful expecting health professionals  to cover football matches while the country is in crisis.Null and void is the sensible solution and looks more likely to happen by the day

The Italian clubs have 12/13 league matches left in Serie A plus their cup matches, i cant see them completing

Nobody is expecting anybody to cover anything

We wait and see

When football is ready to start, we look at where we are at

Not sure what lawyers can do when it’s effectively an act of god event

As has been said, let’s wait and see when clubs can start to re open training and even prepare for a football match. If it’s July / August then it would make sense to void and go again, just cancel the cups as next season likely to be impacted by a second wave of Virus in the Winter

I fear however that it’s going to be well into 2021 that we see competitive football. In which case you can make an argument for finishing this season, have the Euros in June 21, ore season then go again in August 21

A long old time for Wanderers to go without having anything to play for

Something will have to give soon with clubs, surely players need to start taking some massive pay reductions across the board to help the sports survival

According to some reports the premier league & efl are to finish this season over 4 to 6 weeks behind closed doors starting in July

Makes a lot of sense, and only fair for the teams that have earned their right to get promoted, a bit shit for us, but it is what it is.

Probably suspend all cup comps for one season, seems the only logical thing to do.

I’m not looking into it

just putting it out there what I’ve seen in various media

but it does make sense to finish this season somehow

Mad. Absolutely mad. Every paragraph gets more mental than the last... And yet it's not a sci-fi thriller.

Madness

It sounds like utter fantasy world! Creating a huge huge operation to cater for sport while chaos rages everywhere else.

Can you imagine the hype and build up to this once in a lifetime situation only for it to collapse on day 2 after some players test positive?

It reads like it's one step away from the Premier League suggesting they get all the squads together in a facility, infect the lot of them with the virus, let them see it out then start the league. Can't believe I'm even thinking it!

They are greedy bastards. It would sort this season's Premier League money out but what about the Championship, League one and League 2?

Still can't believe they're still playing in Belarus

But here, I can't envisage any kind of solution that would satisfy every team other than completing the season.
