PL clubs furloughing non playing staff and expecting the government to pay 20%, to safeguard the future of the club, whilst the players pick up full wages

There's at least 5 of them doing it including Newcastle and Spurs

That's a piss take

The Government has closed businesses down, so it is right that the government sorts it out.

It's the players and them being told not to take cuts straight away that is distasteful.

Hopefully that gets resolved by the weekend.

Can understand clubs furloughing other staff, some of it will be necessary as they can't necessarily come in because of distancing requirements.

Taken a while, but I'm now in. Albeit with work topping up the 20% so definitely can't grumble about that.

Fair play to your employers for topping up the 20%.  Most I've heard of, including myself, are just on the standard 80%.

Agreed

It’s a payment to support businesses who have seen huge revenue decreases because of the social distancing measures

Football players are a funny one, technically they could be furloughed you’d imagine, but then again they are also assets on a balance sheet. Furloughing could allow them to walk out of a contract and re sign for another club in a few months with a large signing on fee

You'd imagine the PFA agreed some sort of deferred wage scheme soon enough. Not sure how that could work in the lower leagues though

With no guarantee of sport resuming any time soon, it’s a mess

It’s on its way at my company imminently. Although they are paying folk In full irrespective of salary but they need to take 5 days annual leave to compensate for it which is fair enough.

needless to say I just want to carry on working and earn my wage rather than being sat at home bored

I’m still trying to get the stuff delivered to treat the fucker!

but I’m hoping that I’m not getting furloughed. I fear for myself if I do. Could be the beginning of the end for me

We have a Tory MP in Leigh and I don't even know his name, never been seen or heard since he got elected.

no wonder the world is in the state it is with shit like these being classed as newsworthy

A certain poster on here got ripped a new one nearly 18 years ago, but he took it all in good humour and he still posts on here.

So yesterday our part of the company furloughed the majority of the staff with only a few of us kept on, from my section there is just the director and two of us as the senior account directors whilst work has dropped off mine has now gone up. They are paying the extra 20%

I think they’ll keep an eye on it and I could be in the next phase but at the moment I’m on annual leave so not working anyway (we have to take 50% of our leave before H2 otherwise it gets taken away from us to stop mass holidays in Nov/Dec) but I’ve done some work everyday as there are now only 60 of us - and half of them come from areas that haven’t been affected (or workload has increased) such as gaming or the Netflix team.
